Interesting. I still think the show is too expensive for Spike, but it's nice to see they are at least seriously considering the option.

The show is not too expensive for Spike TV.

Take a look at this information.

    TNG: $1,000,000 per episode
    DS9: $700,000 per episode
    VOY (2006): $700,000 per episode

    CSI: $1,600,000 per episode

Now if Spike TV is willing to spend $1.6 Million for CSI reruns that average less than 3 Million viewers (the most recent episode got 2.9 Million) are you seriously trying to tell me that they wouldn't spend that much on brand new episodes of Star Trek: Enterprise?

Actually, they probably wouldn't because the price is most likely going to be trimmed just a little.

I am indeed telling you that. At $880,000 per episode, Paramount took a loss for season 4 in order to get to the pile of syndication money. There is little incentive to do a fifth season and eat into that windfall unless the price goes up. SpikeTV IMO has little incentive to pay even the $880,000 - each successive Trek series performed worse in the ratings, and so far that trend has held up in Spike's rerun ratings - DS9 was shunted out of primetime very quickly compared to TNG - clearly it didn't perform in line with expectations, and by the time 'Voyager' airs and proves or disproves that trend, 'Enterprise' will most certainly be irretrievable. But there's not much incentive for them to purchase the show now - there's no guarantee that 3 million viewers will migrate to cable. If they did, it'd be a hit and a coup, but less than that and it'd be an expensive flop ('Battlestar Galactica' costs much less than 'Enterprise' and gets similar ratings without a free network airing it - why would anyone think 'Enterprise,' the least popular Trek series, would hold all its viewers in a migration to TV that must be paid for?). My gut tells me that it would not be a good investment.

Uh... correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this what CBS pays to make it, not what Spike pays to show it?

As a Brit I don't know Spike TV but even if they can afford it they're going to have to be quick, the cast are already auditioning for other projects. Could Enterprise carry on without the main cast members?
