"Terra Prime" Production Report Goes to the Moon and Beyond - SPOILERS

Features

By Steve Krutzler / 20:44, 1 March 2005 / Enterprise

The official STAR TREK web site has posted the penultimate ENTERPRISE production report. For "Terra Prime," the second in a two-parter (with "Demons"), a human named 'Paxton' threatens to obliterate Starfleet headquarters using a Mars-based weapon repurposed from terraforming efforts on the Red Planet.

Continuing his guest role is Peter Weller in the Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens and Manny Coto penned episode, from a story by the Reeves-Stevenses and Andre Bormanis. Eric Pierpoint continues as the Section 31 operative 'Harris' and Harry Groene will be back as 'Samuels', the Earth politician trying to forge a proto-Federation between species.

"Paxton has moved his Orpheus mining complex - which, it turns out, is detachable and has warp drive - from the Moon to Mars, where he has tied his reactor into the 'verteron array' there," reports the site. "That array is a huge row of particle cannons used to redirect comets for terraforming purposes, but Paxton has turned it into a formidable weapon against any target in the solar system. He lays down an ultimatum: all non-humans must leave the system within 24 hours, or Terra Prime will "defend the rights of every human." And he'll start by destroying Starfleet Command in San Francisco with a verteron beam."

Helmed by director of photography Marvin Rush, "Terra Prime" is slated to air Friday, May 13th at 8 PM just ahead of the currently untitled series finale of ENTERPRISE.

Where in there does it exactly say that he is pointing the "laser" at a target?

Maybe he is not shooting the "laser" at San Fran, but is shooting the "laser" at a comet (ie. Halley's) to redirect it toward's San Fran?

Actually, to me, it sounds more like a chain cannon. A device that it sucks in comets/asteroids and speeds up the item through it's multi arrays (ie. like a particle accelerator) and shoots it out at enourmous speeds.

If it's so easy, why won't you do it?

Just joking, I understand your point...

But my other concern was, not that this whole subject desserve that much attention, that San Francisco is not always facing, say, hmmm, Utopia Planitia, so if it was indeed a direct short a Earth and all the calculations were right, "Terra Prime" would still have to wait for the perfect moment when San Francisco is being "targetable" from their martian position and not mess up...But I guess they planned that all along....

Anyway, the theory using the array to change asteroids or comets course seems a little more logical...
