Rick Berman Concedes Retrograde Motion on 11th TREK Feature Film In Latest "Update"

Features

By Steve Krutzler / 02:34, 8 January 2005 / Star Trek: Nemesis

Speaking in the new issue of the STAR TREK Communicator, producer Rick Berman seems to confirm recent rumors of a possible delay in the previously discussed "prequel" feature film in development as an eleventh TREK pic. Speaking with Dan Madsen, Berman carefully admits the project's development has slowed.

"We are continuing to develop a project that is in the very early stages," he says in issue #154 with Brent Spiner ('Data', 'Arik Soong') on the cover. "It is in a little less of an early stage than it was the last time we spoke, but it is still too early to discuss it. I think there will be some discussion about it in the next couple of months. There is movement."

But whether that movement is forward or backwards Berman is silent on. With the naming of new Paramount studio chief Brad Grey, the future of STAR TREK feature films may be unknown for at least the immediate future. On the subject of ENTERPRISE, Berman admits ratings aren't as good as they'd hope for but that the show is holding its own on Friday nights.

"The fans have spoken highly of the show this season, which is very encouraging to us, but the ratings don't reflect that, unfortunately," he says. "As to whether UPN is going to be interested in doing the fifth season--that is something we will find out about in the spring (note that this interview was conducted just before the 2004 December holidays).

Berman says, however, that he believes a decision on the show's future may be known in time to plan the final episodes of the season. On the writing front, Berman is quick dispell rumors that he or partner Brannon Braga are taking any less of an active role in the show this season, despite the promotion of Manny Coto to showrunner and executive producer.

"The fact that Manny has taken a stronger role in the writing has not affected, in any way, my participation in the stories and editing and production," he says. "Brannon is also still actively involved in the series. It always amuses me when I read about people's perception about all of this. The fact that Manny has taken more of a responsible roel in the story development area doesn't mean what most people think it means. This is still a very collaborative effort, and Brannon's and my involvement is still extremely strong. It always has been. It's not a question of one person's vision versus another's. It is a group effort, and it always has been a group effort."

Berman also hints at upcoming changes for Dominic Keating's character 'Malcolm Reed' in the full interview. This issue of the magazine also features interviews with Brent Spiner and remarks by writer/producer Mike Sussman.

You can look for the new Communicator in your mailbox soon or on newsstands in the U.S.

Oh yes and everything you said just negated all that I just mentioned???

What I just said? No. What I said earlier does in part - what I said before you posted which you have ignored.

This point illustrates why your argumentation is weak. You made the point of season 4 all being Coto's responsibility like it was a self evident fact. Facts are always interelated with other facts. Argument relies on presenting and interpreting interelated facts. In ignoring my antithetical point which was based on evidence you have displayed an ignorance of or denial of the foundations of sound argumentation. If you can't factor in evidence in the very thread you're posting in it's hard for one to see that your're following these rules at all. If you're not following the rules your points mean nothing as they relate to nothing.

I can see you read that dictionary you got for Christmas. Jump to the section for words that start with the letter "D" and look up "Denial". I think it is something that you and Berman have in common!

Stream of consciousness mate. Maybe I should be a bit more leniant in judging your posts. I din't realise how much of a strain it is for you to understand plain english. Putting a sentence together must be very hard for you.

What am I denying anyway? I've denied nothing. If you had read my initial post you would see that my point has a very narrow range of applicability.
