Rick Berman Concedes Retrograde Motion on 11th TREK Feature Film In Latest "Update"

Features

By Steve Krutzler / 02:34, 8 January 2005 / Star Trek: Nemesis

Speaking in the new issue of the STAR TREK Communicator, producer Rick Berman seems to confirm recent rumors of a possible delay in the previously discussed "prequel" feature film in development as an eleventh TREK pic. Speaking with Dan Madsen, Berman carefully admits the project's development has slowed.

"We are continuing to develop a project that is in the very early stages," he says in issue #154 with Brent Spiner ('Data', 'Arik Soong') on the cover. "It is in a little less of an early stage than it was the last time we spoke, but it is still too early to discuss it. I think there will be some discussion about it in the next couple of months. There is movement."

But whether that movement is forward or backwards Berman is silent on. With the naming of new Paramount studio chief Brad Grey, the future of STAR TREK feature films may be unknown for at least the immediate future. On the subject of ENTERPRISE, Berman admits ratings aren't as good as they'd hope for but that the show is holding its own on Friday nights.

"The fans have spoken highly of the show this season, which is very encouraging to us, but the ratings don't reflect that, unfortunately," he says. "As to whether UPN is going to be interested in doing the fifth season--that is something we will find out about in the spring (note that this interview was conducted just before the 2004 December holidays).

Berman says, however, that he believes a decision on the show's future may be known in time to plan the final episodes of the season. On the writing front, Berman is quick dispell rumors that he or partner Brannon Braga are taking any less of an active role in the show this season, despite the promotion of Manny Coto to showrunner and executive producer.

"The fact that Manny has taken a stronger role in the writing has not affected, in any way, my participation in the stories and editing and production," he says. "Brannon is also still actively involved in the series. It always amuses me when I read about people's perception about all of this. The fact that Manny has taken more of a responsible roel in the story development area doesn't mean what most people think it means. This is still a very collaborative effort, and Brannon's and my involvement is still extremely strong. It always has been. It's not a question of one person's vision versus another's. It is a group effort, and it always has been a group effort."

Berman also hints at upcoming changes for Dominic Keating's character 'Malcolm Reed' in the full interview. This issue of the magazine also features interviews with Brent Spiner and remarks by writer/producer Mike Sussman.

You can look for the new Communicator in your mailbox soon or on newsstands in the U.S.

After reading your response 3 times in order to try and understand what the hell you were talking about. I think the next time you read anything by me. You should get a translater for yourself.

Quote:"exactly some people are just ignorant listen to how cocky he is, he thinks he not only knows what goes on on the screen but also behind the screens,

How am I ignorant? Do you even know what ignorant means? Did I say in my response that I was 100% sure? Did you miss the part where I repeatedly said "I think, I believe"? The only person here who is ignorant on anything is you! Especially when it comes to the "English language". Your spelling mistakes and lack of sentence structure are embarrassing. You make little to no point. You do not give a proper counter response to things that I have said. Your response is nothing more than the ramblings of someone who really has no clue what they are talking about.

Quote:"id love to see him do better. "

ANYONE could do better. ANYONE who can write (that excludes you due to your grade 2 reading and writing level) could do better! If you think that ENT has had any good episodes do me a favor and NAME THEM? I am willing to bet that any episode that the "fans" have liked were NOT written by B&B. Season 3 had almost nothing. Season 4 has had NOTHING. The first 2 seasons of ENT were so bad that it started out with 16 million viewers and then dropped to 3 million a week. A drop that forced them to change the whole premise of the show in order to avoid getting canceled. Since you think you are some kind of math major. That is a decrease of 13 million viewers in less than 2 seasons. A drop off somewhere of 80%!

I absolutely think that if a "fan" can remember all the continuity then the IDIOTS who have been with Trek for over 15 years SHOULD remember it too. Especially when Braga admits they have a staff that is supposedly keeping track. A staff of monkeys I believe!

Quote:"He critisizes berman and bragga but they have done so much good in the star trek franchise, some of the best episodes are braggas, (all good things anyone)

All Good Things sucked! There was talk that they wanted that instead of "Generations". If that was the movie. Trek would of dropped then! Comparing the good episode with the bad and you will see that the "BAD out weighs the few good they did". Berman is NO writer. Braga is a hack. The fact that Braga has done no writing for anything else is proof of that. What other writing jobs as he done? What else is on his resume? What is this good? Trek has been declining steadily in the last 10 years. Why? The people who run it don't care. They are incompetent!

Quote:" i mean for god sake i hate people who are full of praise for something being right and then when something is wrong they forget the good.

What good? Insurrection sucked! Nemesis was the worst Trek film to date. ENT has been a failure. VOY was junk. WHERE is this "great Trek"? What good has over shadowed the tremendous amount of bad?

Quote:" let me get this right you think trek ended with the end of TNG so basically you dont like DS9 either, or voyager or enterprise which means you dont like 3/5 of the franchise so you aint a fan anyway,

First off I never said Trek ended with TNG. I never said I didn't like DS9. Voy was pretty bad. ENT's first 3 seasons were shit. So I don't know where you are getting this from. My post was about the STXI and Bermans comments about it. Do NOT get off topic in order to avoid what I said about Berman and STXI. Also don't give me that crap about not being a fan. The logic of your argument is pathetic if not embarrassing.

Quote:"you can call yourself a TOS fan,

Yes

Quote:"or even a TNG fan,

Yes

Quote:"but a star trek fan i think not, wouldnt that mean to be a trek fan in general you would have to like the majority of it.

I like TOS, TNG and DS9. Since we are going to use your stupid math. That is 3/5's of Trek That IS a majority dumbass!

Quote:'oh and let me get this straight, the last decent "TREK" episode was all good things if Generations was the end of trek, so by your account the last decent trek episode was written by bragga, your really inspiring my confidence.

I have NO idea where you are getting this from. WHERE did I mention anything about Generations? Where did I mention anything about end of the Trek? Basically what the hell are you are talking about? Your english is horrible. You have no point. You are way off topic. You are not addressing anything that I said. When you can make a valid point on something that I said and not some "off topic" garbage. Come back and join in but until then go back to "hooked on phonics!"

And for the record, I thought "All Good Things" was very lame! The chicken and the egg....come on!

Quote:"Oh and by the way you dont like ent, or voy so your not really in the position to slag off braggas work on those, because for the people who like VOY then it has to be said bragga wrote a lot of good episodes, futures end i think was one of his,

Another "run on sentence". WHAT the hell are you talking about? You are making NO sense. First off if ENT was never made. VOY would be considered to be the least favorite by the fans! Braga wrote a lot of CRAP for Voy. Case in point "Threshold!" PURE STUPIDITY! It's an episode he, himself finds embarrassing!
Secondly as for "Futures End". More time line crap. The episode was NOT that great. The Seven sudden romance with Chakotay was DUMB! The doctor with his "undying love" for Seven was stupid. The ending was abrupt. (Picardo and Phillips were doing a "post VOY" episode at conventions because fans said it ended too quickly.) That stupid "Queen Bee" ummm I mean Borg. It was no better than "All Good Things".

Quote:"why dont you go back to your dvds unless of course you refuse to buy them on principal of paramount getting money.

I will do that once you graduate from a grade 8 spelling/writing level! My "principal" for NOT buying the box sets of each season is that they are too expensive. Why should I buy them when they are on TV all the time for free? The box sets were done on the cheap. Another Paramount ploy to milk the fans. If you want to see "real" season box sets. Go look at the "X-Files" ones. At least they put some effort into it!

Quote:"and watch what you like, and let us fans of ent and voyager and the later films enjoy them without your inane predictions of doom.

I will do that once you can tell me (and show me) the definition of what a "sentence" is. What did I predict? Did I say the world was coming to an end? Did I say the sky was falling? Suddenly you are going to tell me that just because you like 2/5's of Trek that you are in a position to tell others you are some "fan" over the rest of us? Get bent idiot!

Quote:"dont you feel old when you start turning into one of those "kirk was better than picard i wont watch that bald headed one cause its not real star trek" move with the times or dont but dont put down something us who do move with the times enjoy!!!! just dont bloody watch it, simple as!!!!!!!!

I have no idea what you are talking about here. If you are suggesting that I am "old" then you are sadly mistaken. I had no problem with TNG. I have no probably with Picard. At least Picard can act unlike Jolene who is an embarrassment to Trek. At least the Picard character was unique and not a rip off of TOS.

The next time you wish to discuss/debate anything with me little man. Put some f'ing effort into. These run on sentences and dancing all over the place is not only annoying to read but a personal embarrassment on your part.
