TrekWeb has learned that when the third episode of STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE's fourth season goes before cameras on Wednesday it may include a familiar face. The episode is called "Home," and deals with 'T'Pol's arranged Vulcan marriage, 'Archer's re-acquaintance with a command school friend, and 'Phlox's encounter with anti-alien sentiment on Earth following the Xindi ordeal.

As part of the main storyline, a wedding ceremony will take place and reports suggest actor Jack Donner may have landed the role of the Vulcan priest presiding over it. Donner played 'Subcommander Tal' in the famous ST:TOS installment "The Enterprise Incident." Donner previously auditioned for a role as a Romulan Praetor in NEMESIS. New executive producer Manny Coto has indicated publicly that he is striving to inject ties to TOS in this season of ENTERPRISE.

Donner's most recent television guest stints have included BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, ROSWELL, and CHARMED, among others. His feature credits include 1999's STIGMATA.

This information has yet to be confirmed by Paramount, so cum grano salis.

Jack Donner - TOS "The Enterprise Incident" | Report this post to moderator

Interesting that this guy WAS interested in getting back involved with Trek. I didn't realize he had tried out for NEM.

I have some interview snippets from him on my 1998 Sci Fi Channel SE tapes - one of which was done for play during the ep that he was in - TOS "The Enterprise Incident". I have to take a look and see what he says.

He'd definitely make a good Vulcan, that's for sure. He's got the look. LOL

Now... Let's just hope that he's there for more than his look and he is gifted with some dialog that makes sense for whatever he plans on doing (and no, he shouldn't have to exactly mirror, word for word, someone like T'Pau from TOS "Amok Time"). ;-)

--------

"I think the show talked to people through the characters. They're stories that speak to the heart. They talk about love, they talk about friendship, they talk about loyalty, they talk about patriotism, exploration, curiosity, reaching out... And I think all those things still touch people. Even when you look at a 30-year old show, it still has something to say." - D.C. Fontana, Sci Fi Channel Special Edition TOS 1998
----
"If the season finale involves the re-built USS Reliant coming back in time to the 21st Century crewed by Moogie, Dr. Selar, Morn, Transporter Chief Kyle, and the Salt Vampire, then we'll know that Coto has gone too far." - tomba1701

I like the direction they're going in as these little bits of information seem to indicate that there won't just be simple nods to the other series, specifically TOS, but the nods will actually be stories that the viewer can get into.

I don't care much for the Vulcan storyline very much. I'm still very much opposed to the idea of a Vulcan being on the Enterprise full time. Plus, so much bad characterization of T'Pol by the writers have made the character even more miserable.

I do think that Phlox encountering anti-alien sentiment on Earth will be quite a good story. I don't know if they're going to simply show people shouting epithets at Phlox or if he's going to be beaten up by a youth gang, but the stronger the statement, the better the show. Phlox is generally a very kind person. A savage beating by a bunch of skinheads or gangstas (22nd century versions of course) would do wonders for further fleshing out his character a bit more. I get the feeling that Denobulans don't quite act the way humans do when they don't like another group, although I'm sure they have their own manifestation of xenophobia.

I'm intrigued with these sparse comments on the upcoming season. I guess I'll have to buy a new VCR as I work on Friday nights. Does anyone know if the show will be replayed on Sundays as they have been doing so far?

If you EVER have chance (or want to... ;-)), rewatch ENT "The Breach". Aside from the B-plot of Trip, Reed, and Travis and their spelunking... the A-plot involved Phlox and his rather unfortunate dealings with a member of a former enemy species who has recently come under his care and is dying - AND the guy refuses treatment from Phlox based on the past atrocities that Denobulans apparently carried out on his species and others during a long-ago war.

The ending was rather predictable but if anything, some more of Phlox's interesting backstory was fleshed out in those bits.

That was a Chris Black story and one thing that he has done better than some of the others, is the stronger character-focus stuff (I expect, even in his rework of VOY "One" as ENT "Doctor's Orders"... ;-)). Plus he seems to be a master at multi-plot stories.

Yeah, although I thought it was because he was or would be writing for other shows.

The encore broadcasts are up to your local affilliate; here in Tampa they rebroadcast ENT on Saturdays @ 10 PM. Your mileage may vary.
