Con Report: Brent Spiner Will Guest in Three Episodes of ENT S4; Plus Braga Not Stepping Back

Features

By Steve Krutzler / 12:46, 11 July 2004 / Enterprise

According to an attendee at yesterday's Sci-Fi Expo in Dallas, TX, guest Marina Sirtis has spilled the beans about a high-profile STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE guest star.

According to the report, sent in to TrekToday, Sirtis indicated that ST:TNG cohort Brent Spiner will guest star in three episodes of ENTERPRISE this season. Spiner's co-star told fans at the gathering that he would be playing the grandfather of his famous character Data's creator: Doctor Noonien Soong. Spiner previously played Soong himself in TNG's "Brothers" and other episodes.

The actress says Spiner's stint will begin production next month. This is the first of what could be many familiar faces on the series this season, as producer Rick Berman hinted at many such scenarios in a recent interview (story).

This information has yet to be confirmed or announced by Paramount. For the original report check out this page.

In related news, more quotes from Berman's latest STAR TREK Communicator interview have surfaced, this time the exec refutes previous reports from cast member Dominic Keating and others that co-executive producer Brannon Braga would be "stepping back" for the upcoming season. Berman's response? "I think to say he 'might be stepping back' would not really be true. Brannon isn't going anywhere."

CHUCK is a one-hour, action-comedy series that follows Chuck Bartowski (Zachary Levi, "Less Than Perfect") -- a computer geek who is catapulted into a new career as the government's most vital secret agent. This upcoming season will include some special guest stars, including Brandon Routh of "Superman Returns" who will play CIA agent Daniel Shaw in an episode, and the addition of SUBWAY restaurant as a major advertiser to the show. Chuck averaged a 4.0/6 rating last season, about eight percent better than the recently cancelled "Trauma". Ratings-challenged Heroes moves back an hour when Chuck returns on Monday nights. STAR TREK VOYAGER's Robert Duncan McNeill serves Chuck as a supervising producer and director.0

I have to agree. It is simply not sensible for someone to judge something so early. Imagine the pitch for STAR TREK II: "Khan, this guy seen in one piddily little episode, comes back with an axe to grind against Kirk!" Sounds kind of lame, actually. I can understand people being skeptical, but the visceral nastiness against Berman and Braga personally, and bemoaning every new idea that comes out is just exactly as you describe it: self-parody. It's almost not even worth debating like this because no one takes that kind of drivel seriously, anyhow. It just makes fandom look bad.

It's a rip-off. / We're stepped on, and cheated! / We're flat, stone-cold lied to / But we're not defeated / No!

What is really pathetic is your "lets sit back and watch another mess" occur. What does it take to get you to see that some of these ideas are going to suck? The past record of "hype" has brought about more crap. Despite so called fans like you saying "lets see it first". Well with that attitude they could do anything, screw up more stuff and put out more crap with your LAZY attitude. With the track record of 2 BOMB movies and now Berman saying he is involved in another movie. It is a VERY safe assumption from fans that this is going to SUCK royally!

WHY DO PEOPLE LIKE YOU WHO HAVE SEEN THE PISS POOR QUALITY OF TREK THESE PAST 6 YEARS THINK THAT BERMAN IS GOING TO PUT OUT A MOVIE LIKE STII? You people are just dreaming!

How ANYONE like you who see's the last 6 year track record by the same people can sit by and say "lets give them yet another chance is mind blowing.

My questions to you are this: What does it take for you to finally admit this franchise is going no where? How much more crap does it take to get you upset at seeing something that was so cool treated like shit?

Your rant against fans who are sick of the same old shit is silly. Fans after years of PURE CRAP are not going to sit by and be happy with more of the same old crap. Maybe you are happy with the current state of trek but some of us are not.

I like Spiner. He is a superb actor - That's why I don't want to see him waste his talents on Enterprise.
Scott Bakula is another talented actor whose reputation has been sullied by appearing on Enterprise.
I have been a life long Trek fan. I watched all of the series- I see good and bad in all the series. The question is what proportion.
Enterprise has had a few real good episodes- but there is no consistency. And a vast majority of it is just trash.
As for being Magnoliafans, I derive no satisfaction whatsoever from the failure of Enterprise. I was rooting for it to be a roaring success, partly because I thought Voyager was dragging the franshise down.
