Con Report: Brent Spiner Will Guest in Three Episodes of ENT S4; Plus Braga Not Stepping Back

By Steve Krutzler / 12:46, 11 July 2004 / Enterprise

According to an attendee at yesterday's Sci-Fi Expo in Dallas, TX, guest Marina Sirtis has spilled the beans about a high-profile STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE guest star.

According to the report, sent in to TrekToday, Sirtis indicated that ST:TNG cohort Brent Spiner will guest star in three episodes of ENTERPRISE this season. Spiner's co-star told fans at the gathering that he would be playing the grandfather of his famous character Data's creator: Doctor Noonien Soong. Spiner previously played Soong himself in TNG's "Brothers" and other episodes.

The actress says Spiner's stint will begin production next month. This is the first of what could be many familiar faces on the series this season, as producer Rick Berman hinted at many such scenarios in a recent interview (story).

This information has yet to be confirmed or announced by Paramount. For the original report check out this page.

In related news, more quotes from Berman's latest STAR TREK Communicator interview have surfaced, this time the exec refutes previous reports from cast member Dominic Keating and others that co-executive producer Brannon Braga would be "stepping back" for the upcoming season. Berman's response? "I think to say he 'might be stepping back' would not really be true. Brannon isn't going anywhere."

Quote:"Yeah, it really is a joke. No matter what new storyline is posted the people complain. There is quite simply no pleasing them. This Romulan War movie is the perfect example. We know next to nothing about it. All we know is the most basic premise. A movie is only as good as it's script, and we don't even know who is writing it yet. Its simply put, far too soon to say one way or the other if it will be good or not. And Spiner playing Soong's grandfather? We don't know what the story of the epside is, only one cast member. How can we say if it's a good idea or not if we don't even know the idea."

Knowing who is in charge of this and their track records. The expectations are very LOW. You never did address the guys comment of "is everyone in Trek going to come back as their grandparent". This whole thing smells of failure.

This is just like the time in S2 before "Regeneration" was going to air that fans slammed the episodes premise . And do you know what. The episode was shit. Phlox is immune to the Borg? Making a dinosaur space ship with NO way of making technology go from Less then warp 1 to Warp 8. It was like asking "Fred Flintsones car to go from 0 to 100 in .6 secs. It was a stupid episode and fans were 100% correct in predicing that it was going to be shit. The same can be held here as well.

Quote:"'Im just sick of it. Then these episodes air and people complain because they decided they were going to hate them months in advance. This season we got strong, well written episodes like Similitude and Damage and it still wasn't enough.

Well the people who are going to be doing the movie (Rick Berman) didn't write the majority of the scripts for S3. What we know of Bermans quality is Nemesis, Insurrection, ENT-S1 and S2. So the expectations are VERY LOW! Besides you hated Nemesis and Voy. A major chunk of Trek these past 6 years yet you still maintain the lazy fan attitude of "wait and see another car crash". How sad and yet you say you are a life long fan. That is interesting.

Can't expect an hack to give us a masterpiece.
