Con Report: Brent Spiner Will Guest in Three Episodes of ENT S4; Plus Braga Not Stepping Back

By Steve Krutzler / 12:46, 11 July 2004 / Enterprise

According to an attendee at yesterday's Sci-Fi Expo in Dallas, TX, guest Marina Sirtis has spilled the beans about a high-profile STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE guest star.

According to the report, sent in to TrekToday, Sirtis indicated that ST:TNG cohort Brent Spiner will guest star in three episodes of ENTERPRISE this season. Spiner's co-star told fans at the gathering that he would be playing the grandfather of his famous character Data's creator: Doctor Noonien Soong. Spiner previously played Soong himself in TNG's "Brothers" and other episodes.

The actress says Spiner's stint will begin production next month. This is the first of what could be many familiar faces on the series this season, as producer Rick Berman hinted at many such scenarios in a recent interview (story).

This information has yet to be confirmed or announced by Paramount. For the original report check out this page.

In related news, more quotes from Berman's latest STAR TREK Communicator interview have surfaced, this time the exec refutes previous reports from cast member Dominic Keating and others that co-executive producer Brannon Braga would be "stepping back" for the upcoming season. Berman's response? "I think to say he 'might be stepping back' would not really be true. Brannon isn't going anywhere."

Scorned, you are the worst of the bunch. This franchise has NOT given us "pure crap" for 6 years. You are one of the reverse stepford fans I mentioned. If it's bad you complain, If it's good you complain. ENTERPRISE has been pretty darned good. It started off shakey in year one but with each passing year it's gotten better and season three was really great. And I am not someone who will except anything with the TREK brand name stamped on it. I hated VOYAGER and NEMESIS with a passion. ENTERPRISE hasn't been nearly as good as CLASSIC, DS9, or NEXT GENERATION but it's still been pretty good. You wouldn't know it to come here. All you read in these posts is how aweful the show is, despite the fact that it's far from it.

Berman is not the devil. He is a producer. A Producer who has given us a lot of good TREK. NEXT GENERATION's first two seasons kind of sucked. Berman took over from Roddenberry in season three, and suddenly the show got really good. He's co-creator of DS9, my favorite TREK series, and was producer of FIRST CONTACT, one of the best movies. Sure, VOYAGER sucked, but honestly the man has more good TREK then bad on his resume. Would I like someone new to come in? Some new blood? Yeah, that would be nice. But guess what? It's not happening. We're stuck with him, probobly because Paramount signed him to a multi-year contract and it would be expensive to cut him loose.

So I guess I'm a lazy fan because I hope for the best. What does a non lazy fan do,anyway? Drive out to Hollywood, invade the set, and start shooting the series himself?? We're powerless. We can write in and say what we think. Paramount will either listen or they won't. Other then that it's out of your hands. Thankfully there is more good then bad. There are more good episodes of ENTERPRISE then bad ones, and more good TREK movies then bad ones. Of course you'll disagree because you have a desire to hate the show. Nevermind the fact that episodes like Cogenitor, and Similitude stand right up there with episodes like City on the eDGe and The Visitor. post whatever reply you want because I'm not responding anymore. I've read your posts for a long time n ow. I know what your like.
