"Beam Me Up, Scotty!" James Doohan to Receive Star on Hollywood Walk of Fame Next Month

Features

By Steve Krutzler / 15:42, 17 June 2004 / People

Original STAR TREK actor James Doohan will finally receive one of Hollywood's most famous tributes later this year. The beloved 'Scotty' actor will receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, along with 31 other entertainment industry celebrities, according to the Associated Press.

Doohan joins the likes of STAR TREK actors William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, DeForest Kelley, and Patrick Stewart to get his star on the famous sidewalk on Hollywood Boulevard here in Los Angeles. Doohan will be inducted along with fellow TV recipients for next year's award including broadcasters Tom Brokaw and Al Michaels and FRASIER actor David Hyde Pierce. Other 2005 inductees include Antonio Banderas, Tim Allen, Julianne Moore, and rocker Rod Stewart.

Doohan will become the sixth original STAR TREK principle actor to get a star, leaving only Walter Koenig ('Chekov') for future recognition. Gene Roddenberry has a star, and so does Ricardo Montalban. The dedication ceremonies will be held at Hollywood and Vine the weekend of August 28-30, 2004.

Doohan's son Chris organized the ScottysStar effort to raise the $15,000 nomination fee required to receive the star. Fans who donated over $500 will be eligible to attend the dedication ceremony as VIP guests of Mr. Doohan. James Doohan is 84.

Rod Stewart certainly is a true rocker...

For ages I've wondered why Star Trek's Scotty never had a star. I was thrilled to learn of the efforts to raise the cash through Scotty's Star. Had it not been for the fact that it was so successful in raising the needed funds so quickly I, too, would've donated a small portion. Luckily, there are a lot of fans out there that idolized Scotty and this was a great way of saying thanks for almost 40 years of inspriation (doubtful this would be the case for any of the cast of the newer shows). Way to go Jimmy!

Like with Commander Sisko's promotion to Captain, "It's about time!"
