STAR TREK Prequel Runs Away With USA Today's "Save Our Show" Victory, 70% Vote to Save ENT

By Steve Krutzler / 11:53, 26 April 2004 / Enterprise

USA Today has published the results of its recent "Save Our Show" poll, which asks readers to vote on whether twelve shows the paper considers "on the bubble" between renewal and cancellation should make the cut for next season.

This year the poll attracted 43,000 votes, according to the paper, with 70% of them going to STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE. USA Today notes that this is partially reflective of a "coordinated effort," which included spreading the word about the poll throughout online STAR TREK fandom. Groups like
The ENTERPRISE Project has been rallying fan support to save the fifth STAR TREK series for months.

Coming in second with 36.5% was Fox's offbeat and critically-acclaimed comedy ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT, followed by TRU CALLING with 28%. Only these three plus CBS's THE DISTRICT won more votes to renew than to dismiss, and the majority of voters were ambivalent about the other nine shows in the survey.

"The survey results rarely determine the fate of the shows, though they do indicate pockets of loyal support," writes the paper. "Far more important are Nielsen ratings and creative, scheduling or financial concerns.

The WB's recently-cancelled ANGEL received support, as well as Bryan Fuller (writer, ST:VOY)'s WONDERFALLS. For the original article, visit this page.

Enterprise is one of only three shows I bother to watch every week, the other two being Angel and Tru Calling. I can't find anything better that ENT on TV and in terms of Star Trek it's my second favourite series. Azati Prime and Damage played more like an episode of Buffy or Angel with huge character developments in each, I don't think Trek has ever done much better than this.

I couldnt agree more. I am not here to bash but I am just still shocked at how many people defend this show when it is just ok. Angel is better and that is leaving us and did Farscape. Two great genre shows that will sorely be missed.
Once and Again mentioned above and shows like Freaks and Geeks are amazingly written shows with wonderful characters. Enterprise does not fit into those catagories.
It's great that what is left of the fandom is still liking it because they grew up with it or whatever but I learned my lesson after watching Voyager for 7 y ears, it's not worth standing behind a show only because it has Trek in the title or because it is the spinoff of a great couple of shows. Go watch or fight for something that deserves to be saved.

Enterprise deserves to be saved no matter how bad it is. Simply because it's Star Trek, and Star Trek needs to continue as it symbolise the best in mankind. The show cannot improve if it gets cancelled.

All the other shows are just temporary and time specific - born today and dies tomorrow. Star Trek has the best and biggest appeal. The premise of exploring space, learning, appriciating life, peaceful coexsistance as goal - all those things makes Star Trek worth saving now and forever.

The other shows are just clever entertaining at best.

Two years ago, maybe even a year ago, I'd have agreed that Angel was much better than Enterprise.

But as Enterprise has got better, Angel has got much worse.

Ent for me right now. I'm not even bothered Angel has been axed (but then the whole Buffy/Angel universe just kind of died anyway).
