Familiar Faces to Lend a Hand in Season Finale "Zero Hour" - First Plot Info (SPOILERS)

Features

By Steve Krutzler / 14:55, 11 March 2004 / Enterprise

The season finale of STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE's third season is well under way, with production scheduled to wrap early next week at Paramount studios in Hollywood. Titled "Zero Hour," the episode undoubtedly brings to a head the effort to prevent the Xindi superweapon from being launched against Earth. Yesterday's production report for "Countdown" (story) revealed that Archer may get some of the Xindi species to side with him in this task.

Sources tell TrekWeb that "Zero Hour" will see the return of a familiar face to the Expanse, helping the "Pink Skins" in their mission. Jeffrey Combs' Andorian commander 'Shran', who appeared in this season's "Proving Ground," will rear his blue head in the final episode, which may see the fight to defeat the Xindi taken all the way to the Xindi Council Chamber itself.

"Zero Hour" is slated to air on UPN May 26th, and may close a significant chapter in ENTERPRISE's Xindi storyline. Rick Berman recently hinted (story) that new plot arcs may emerge for season four of the show, all but official at this point.

Okay, to some degree I'll say that's true. The first two seasons, almost everybody who posted here seemed to hate the show. I think the opinions have become a lot more balanced, but I'm not sure if that's because people's opinions have changed or because the more negative people have just moved on. And there's no question that most people have been gushing over Azati Prime and suddenly proclaiming their love for the show. But, based on the declining ratings, it's hard to argue that the general population feels there's been an improvement in quality. Also, read the AICN boards or any other general Sci-Fi boards and you'll see that the hatred for the show really hasn't died down.

In my opinion, the series really has not gotten any better overall. I never hated the first two seasons, I just simply didn't enjoy them. And I'm really not enjoying this season either, but I don't hate it. There have been two or three very good episodes, and a handful of better than average episodes, but for every good one there's also been a stinker in the bunch. I actually rate every episode at GEOS so I can keep track of my opinion. And I try to be fair. So far my average rating for season 1 was 6.52, for season 2 it was 6.58, and for season 3 it's 6.47. Again, that's skewed because the season isn't complete yet. That's just my opinion, of course, and the show isn't going to be renewed or cancelled based on how I feel about it.

My point is that if the show has been getting improved buzz, it's only true on these boards. It may very well get renewed based on factors we haven't taken into account, but from all I can see, the show's future does not look good. I'm just trying to analyze the available information and predict an outcome, not make a value judgment on what should happen. We'll know for sure in the next few weeks, though I wish they would come out and make a decision either way already. If this episode (which is the first season finale since 1989 which doesn't end on a cliffhanger) is the end of the series, I wish they'd give the producers time to give the show a proper send off.
