"Geek" Wil Wheaton Signs Three Book Deal With Publisher O'Reilly & Associates

By Steve Krutzler / 12:44, 3 December 2003 / People

STAR TREK actor Wil Wheaton ('Wesley Crusher') has moved from much-derided actor to celebrity blogger and now to published author. The actor announces today the signing of a three-book deal with publisher O'Reilly & Associates, which will publish a new version of his short story collection DANCINE BAREFOOT, which sold 3,000 copies in self-publication.

"This is a very exciting relationship for me, for several reasons," the actor wrote on his official blog. "First, I am a huge geek, and without O'Reilly, I wouldn't know
HTML from LMNOP. I never would have been able to get Linux running, and
Perl would be one of the not-quite-as-good-as-Mrs.-Garrett replacements on 'Diff'rent Strokes.' Now, I'll be able to get my books into more stores than I ever was with my own Monolith Press. I can't wait to see how 'Dancing Barefoot' does when it's got a major publisher behind it."

In addition to DANCING BAREFOOT, which will be available soon, O'Reilly & Associates will publish JUST A GEEK, which "continues the story of Wheaton's
transformation from teen actor to grown-up writer, computer geek, actor,
husband, and stepfather," according to the publisher. In 2005, Wheaton will pen WIL WHEATON'S WEBSITE DESIGN, focused on the coding of his own site.

Nov 23Chuck returns to NBC with a special two-hour show on Sunday, Jan 10, 2010, before returning to its regular time slot, Mondays at 8pm on the following night. It's return to prime time television can be attributed to a successful fan renewnal campaign last year. CHUCK is a one-hour, action-comedy series that follows Chuck Bartowski (Zachary Levi, "Less Than Perfect") -- a computer geek who is catapulted into a new career as the government's most vital secret agent. This upcoming season will include some special guest stars, including Brandon Routh of "Superman Returns" who will play CIA agent Daniel Shaw in an episode, and the addition of SUBWAY restaurant as a major advertiser to the show. Chuck averaged a 4.0/6 rating last season, about eight percent better than the recently cancelled "Trauma". Ratings-challenged Heroes moves back an hour when Chuck returns on Monday nights. Scorned who???

Wil is very well known in Internet circles such as Slashdot and Fark. They garner millions of viewers per week (or even day). Last I checked, Wil was working with VH-1 on a new show. O'Reilly wouldn't publish him if he wasn't a big enough name to sell books. Check your facts for once, mmmkay?

Oh, and since I've never responded to you or your mindless hating rants directly before on TrekWeb, let me just say it now: YOU'RE A FRIGGIN' MORON. I've yet to see you say anything good about anything. I think it's time to block you out.

I know you'll probably respond with some stupid retort, but too bad, you've already lost.

You know Scorned (and what an oddly fitting name you have) it is comments like yours that make me glad I am not a vapid little snob like you because I don't measure success is the same shallow terms as you seem to. I don't think I would be too off base when I believe you might have one of those cheap Enterprise bridge mock-ups in your basement and a deep meaningful relationship with your hand.

I could espouse why I consider Wil a hero (there I said it again) but I really don't owe you any explanation and I have no reason to be ashamed of my choices. However I would like to offer one final retort that is tuned to your maturity and intelligence (For your sake I tried to keep the number of syllables to a minimum)

"I'm rubber and you're glue...whatever you say bounces off of me and sticks to you"

Oh yeah...Wil still rules...and you still suck
