Writing 26-episode Season 3 for fun | Report this post to moderator
By: egervari (Odo's file, contact) @ 20:35:36 on Jun 23, 2003

As some of you already know, I have undergone a personal project to write Season 3 entirely. I don't think I'll get around to writing every teleplay, but I will have the entire 1st draft outline for season 3 completed in a few days.

Now, I wanted to really change this series around. I want to make it serialized like 24, DS9, Alias and The West Wing. I wanted to have a main arc and many sub-arcs going throughout the entire series. I wanted the show to focus more on other places than Enterprise itself - like Earth, the Vulcan High Command and other locations. Basically, I'm writing the series how I think it should have been written. In effect, it's really going to be "Star Trek: Birth of the Federation" than just Enterprise. To be honest, this makes the show much more interesting.

Now, some people might not agree with the goals I set out for myself. Well, I don't know what to say. I'm personally tired of generic episodes, spacial anomolies and random aliens taking over the ship. Many people are too as this has been said many times before. I just think Enterprise should have been serialized from the start. Since TNG was episodic, DS9 was a lot more serialized and Voyager returned back to its episodic format, it made a lot of sense to me that Enterprise try something different.

As for characters, I've created personal missions for each one of them and strategies for their development throughout the season. Thus, I know for a fact that I can't toss character development out the window - it's been planned from the start over 26 episodes. I'm also introducing some new cast members and reoccuring guest characters. Trust me, I'm very sure you are going to like the ideas. Also, I'm not killing any of the cast members off. Despite the fact that I hate some of the crew, I'm going to try my best to turn these characters like Hoshi, Malcom and Travis into people I think the audience can relate with and enjoy. They are going to get several more responsibilies as far as the mission goes and there is going to be real loss and tragedy throughout the series.

I've tried to think about continuity, but since I haven't watched a lot of TOS, there is probably going to be errors in that regard. I just wanted to let everyone know that the main reason why I'm writing this is to get some experience in storyboarding and writing teleplays. While continuity is important to Star Trek, it's not the first thing on my mind. I just want to create some really great episodes first and foremost that I'm sure people will enjoy reading about.

Lastly, I came up with the plot lines and stuff myself. Some of the plots might have looked like they came from here (either I pitched them long ago when I was reviewing episodes week-after-wekk or someone else might have thought of them later on, being completely unaware). Needless to say, I tried to spice the plots up and make them into something I don't believe anyone on these boards has came up with - at least I really hope so. After you guys read my ideas and offer suggestions, then there might a time for some reintergration. I just wanted to see what I could come up with on my own first (since writing is really not my specialty in any way - I was never any good at in high school but I think I did a lot of maturing since then to try again now).

Thus, when I post a link to Word document containing the episodes for people to review and enjoy, I'd like you all to keep these things in mind. I would still value critiques as well, so always be truthful and cool! Thanks for listening.
