"Proving Ground" best of the arc so far | Report this post to moderator

It's just too bad so few people tuned in for it. The ENT arc episodes are beginning to take on a very DS9-like quality. Not only do we have Weyoun--err, I mean Shran--calling the shots in this episode, but we also get the most scenes of the Xindi leaders. The Primate-Reptilian-Sloth-Insectoid-Acquatic interactions are beginning to take on a very Founder-Jem'Hadar-Cardassian-Breen-esque quality. They need to start developing some of the other Xindi leaders besides Degra, but I know we'll get a good dose of him in Strategem.

This was just a good arc story, very good in fact. The best since "Anomaly" and definitely the best overall in the entire Xindi arc. Dialogue was very crisp and well-written, especially Shran's ad libbing. "The Andorian Mining Consortium runs from no one" was particularly effective. The episode is pretty much about the coming Human-Andorian alliance that will help forge the Federation, so it's pretty cool that they weaved that into this whole Xindi storyline. Shran's final decision was excellent and clearly takes us one step further toward earning a valuable ally within the Imperial Guard. There was also a vague parallel with regard to WMD that wasn't lost even with all that was going on.

Overall, one of the best episodes of the year. A great arc story that managed to rise above by throwing in some good human/Andorian development and laying the groundwork for the founding of the Federation.

Although I still think the Andorian homeworld is Andor, not Andoria.

8/10.
