'Exile' revisits Beauty and the Beast (Spoilers) | Report this post to moderator

Starting with a classic tale, Enterprise adds a great deal to the continuing story with this week's episode. Hoshi is the focus here, and Linda Park rises to the challenge, carrying the episode with compelling acting. The writer, Phyllis Strong, pens an episode that is formulaic to be sure, but with enough genuine character moments for Hoshi that the obvious similarity to Beauty and the Beast does not drag the episode down into useless cliche. The 'B' plot is also well-executed, and the implications of the Expanse as a creation are far-reaching. There is great potential here to tell the story of why the Expanse was created, and I hope that the writers of Enterprise are up to the task. From what we have seen in the past six episodes, I am of the opinion that they are, but we will have to wait and see.

I don't want to spoil too much of the episode here, so I will stop there. I honestly think that 'Exile' was a very good addition to the developing story, with strong direction, writing and performances. I give this episode 9/10.
