REVIEW: "Anomaly " a good episode..... | Report this post to moderator

Whether they can keep it up is another story, but Anomaly is one of those episodes where you think, hey, they might be changing for the better here.

They wernt afraid to experiment with the music, even if it was a bit strong/badly chosen for some scenes, they wernt afraid to mess with Archer's personality, even if his sudden immoral behaviour was out of the blue...... ......and hell this episode contained the first REAL battle scene on ENT, where it wasnt just gimmicky CGI and Archer saying only 'polarise the hull plating, return fire', this actually had fictional Trek realism and intelligence, a first for a ship battle in ENT. Not to mention the first casualty, although one which Archer and co. took a bit lightly for their first ever crew loss.....

Althought any radical new direction of imporved writing hasnt surfaced yet, this certainly marks a change for the better in execution, and actually does show a hint of some creative risk. This has happened before of course, an improved episode or two, but lets see if they can actually keep it up this time, (I would be stupid to say thats likely in face of previous evidence), and manage to not have it wrecked in the next B&B written episode. Sussman was a good writer last season, which it seems he hasnt lost, even thought he isnt working with Phillis Strong this season by the looks of things, and Straiton's direction is more than satisfactory.

I give it an 8/10, well wroth the watch, despite some flaws, assuming you are still watching :-)
