Nuclear Weapons in Star Trek | Report this post to moderator

Hi there! This is my first post here on trekweb, although I've been reading a lot of your post on her for quite some time. I find a lot of you very insightful on Star Trek, almost as much as myself.
One of the things I've noticed most about star trek is the constent endeavour of humanity trying to better themselves. This led me my question; are there still nuclear weapons on earth? I would have suppose by the TOS or TNG timeline, that Humans have destroyed a majority of these weapons. But in ENT time, I would imagine that they would still be plenty of them left unaccounted for. I would think that after the third world war, humanity would try to keep them from falling into radical fractions hands and keep them in a safe place. Prehaps the vulcans themselves helped with the intital dismantling of them. I would think, Archer, being a wise commander would have wanted Star Fleet and the new Earth Government to handle the weapons in a safe manner. So, if push came to shove, would Earth still use them. In the TOS episode, Spock informed the Crew that Earth Forces used Atomic weapons in the war with the Romulans. Did the war come a point of desperation that Earth decided to bring out these weapons to drive off a Romulan aramada? If so, Wouldn't the Enterprise, the most advance ship in the fleet be armed with at least a couple of nukes just in case they ran into something that ordinary torpedos couldn't dent? Well, that my post.
