Rick Berman made me stab myself in the eye!!! | Report this post to moderator
By: SinNombre333 (Odo's file, contact, web site) @ 11:26:26 on Jul 23, 2003

I am sure that everyone has read my "Lengthy Plea to Berman and Braga", and I think we were all in agreement that creative changes were necessary to sustain a fanbase. I also was said to have been far too generous in my criticism of Berman and Braga. Well, after reading the recent press release....you are all absolutely 100% correct that I have been far too kind to B&B.

I wanted to stab myself in the eye when I read that Berman suggested that this season will be "fun and sexy" because T'Pol will be experimenting with her emotions. God help Star Trek!!! After all the polls, questionaires, and criticism, they still don't get it. Braga even denied that they did nothing creatively wrong in the past two seasons....UGH!!!!!! These two couldn't find their ass with both hands!

As you can all see, I am having a bad day, and this pitiful excuse for a press release to gather excitement for the new season did not help. I am trying very hard to remain optimistic, but when the two guys in charge talk about T'Pol "experimenting" and making the series "fun" and "sexy"...I lose a lot of hope. What happened to the fan outcry for something "intelligent" and "cerebral", which is what hooked fans to Star Trek in the first place?

In the world of science, when a journal is called "sexy", it is a negative comment implying eye-catching and flashy, but little substance. Gene Roddenberry wanted a show that had "substance"...show about ideas, philosophies, science, politics, social issues...NOT let's have a Vulcan act like a total non-Vulcan because she's hot and looks good with barely any clothes on.

Actually, since most of the shows on UPN are pretty "dumbed down"...it seems logical that the network has no intention to cater to the educated portion of society. So, why should I be surprised that they would take an intelligent concept and degenerate it into something that the high school jock who couldn't spell "cat" could enjoy? Oooooh, I sense a conspiracy theory coming on....isn't it interesting that when Star Trek series began to sour was when they were moved over to UPN....TNG and DS9 never had to suffer the idiocy of UPN. Hmmmmm.....remember the pitiful preview for "Cogenitor" (which I admit turned out to be a creatively excellent episode) that painted the episode to be a sexual joke?

Well, food for thought...sorry about the rant, but my faith in the future of Star Trek is being trampled.
