Why do people think release date killed Nemesis? | Report this post to moderator

Y'know, it amazes me how people are in such denial over the truth behind what killed Nemesis. People think that the film did poorly at the box office simply because it was crushed by competition. Um, am I the only one here who noticed that Jennifer Lopez topped this film on its opening weekend? Is it possible that Trekkers and non-Trekkers didn't go to this film simply because maybe they didn't care? Maybe they saw the advertisments and thought it looked too flashy for a Trek film? Maybe they read the many, many, many luke-warm reviews and decided to pass it up? Do people honestly think that if someone wanted to go see Two Towers AND Nemesis, that they wouldn't do both? Its not like Two Towers completely dominated the box office. Yes, it was a hit, but other movies held their own against Nemesis. I don't know of another movie that was released in that month long period that took a hit like Nemesis did. Hell, after a MONTH it wasn't even playing on a single one of the 39 screens in my city.
To recap, people didn't not go to this film because they wanted to see Two Towers instead. They didn't go because what little interest they may have had in Trek died, and any dis-interest they had was only reinforced by the bad publicity and advertisements that showed just how poor the movie looked. The movie looked too flashy, too cheesy (car chases?!) and just too un-Trek like. I think people saw these trailers and just said "no". Reading the reviews, they said "again, no."
