Now that Trek press is 100% Negative | Report this post to moderator

what will it mean for the franchise? TV Guide lost interest once DS9 went off air (and now SG-1 is the next pop culture sci-fi myth?). Time Magazine predicted the end as early as GENERATIONS in the same issue where Kirk and Picard shared the cover, as if the franchise could only go down hill from there. Now the Entertainment Weekly atricle makes it clear that the only Star Trek media angle is "Is Star Trek Dead?" stories. And once that angle gets old, there won't be anything left to report and the franchise will be relegated to message boards such as this. As cool as we all are, we cant suport the franchise. Berman's struggle for hearts and minds isnt with us. The fan base is inconsequential. The general TV land audience is where the ratings battle will be won or lost, and Berman cannot win with all this bad press.

And there isnt anything Berman can do either. It's hopeless. Star Trek isnt sexy anymore. No amount of tweeking of ENT story lines or characters or hairdoos is going to make the franchise atractive to the press.

It has been said ad nauseum but we really needed a hiatus of several years. It remains to be seen whether or not Trek would be able to recover easier from a forced or chosen retirement, if at all. I predict, after ENT is cnaceled, a longer retirment than Trek fnas have ever known.
