Too early to judge?
By timmer33

Impersonating people has long been a mainstay in sci-fi. From the first incarnation of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" (a serialized book called "Sleep No More") to "The Thing" to countless Trek episodes, it's been done again and again. I guess it's how ENT decides to do it that will determine the episode's success or failure. However, it does seem odd to me that two new castmembers would be featured in this episode when people like Mayweather and Hoshi have been barely developed. Mayweather especially.

On another subject, I just watched a TOS episode (I forgot the name) with a librarian named Mr. ATOZ (get it? A to Z?) where Kirk gets sent back in the planet's past to the witch trials and Spock and Bones get sent back to an ice age. Now, for TOS it was a mediocre episode. But it was light years beyond anything that ENT or VOY have done. I was amazed at how well this episode has stood up over the past 35 years! I realized why ... it's the writing, of course. It has nothing to do with f/x or action or "high concept" sci-fi, plain and simple it was a well-written episode with tension, emotion and good characterization. If only B&B could learn from TOS and try to apply some of those lessons to ENT. Imagine a 35 year old program being able to impress even today.

And Steve, you shouldn't be so quick to jump in and criticize someone for judging the episode already, because yeah, it is a slightly overused sci-fi plot point and there are pre-established characters that should be developed before they introduce new characters and start focussing on them. The only people on ENT that should be happy are Trip, Archer and T'Pol. The rest are completely underused. How do you think they feel, now that B&B have decided that to "improve" the show they had to go to such huge extremes as moving the locale and adding new faces and leaving behind the original focus of the series? Don't become a Star Trek apologist because you're looking forward to your next trip to the sets of ENT. Please keep an open mind about what is happening over at Paramount. B&B are slowly destroying the TREK name and more than just the fans are noticing. The fact that NEMESIS bombed and ACTIVISION's lawsuit are two major signposts on the road to B&B's dismissal, and perhaps to Star Trek's end. What ENT needs are good writers and producers that are willing to let the writers experiment with sci-fi concepts and explore the characters that have already been created.
