A fitting score.
By cdydatzigs

I know some of you on here are a little critical of the score, even though your musical knowledge and appreciation might be spartan at best. But as I have said before; I am not only a Sci-Fi fan like all of you but I was a violinist in an orchestra for 8 years. I am a big fan of movie scores and for the most part, Star Trek has had a very solid history in that regard.

I hadn't really been exposed to Giacchino's work before because I am not a big gamer and I have never seen an episode of Lost. Since I was able to go into this with a completely objective mind, I thought the music was fantastic. The lead-in to the main title was punchy and fresh, the musical cues when Kirk was born is probably half the reason I get choked up every time I watch it. The Nero theme is very old skool.. brass and sweeping strings, which I liked too. Finally, this film has a MELODY! Refreshing seeing as Nemesis didn't.

I accept and totally get his explanation as to why the film had the sound it did and I feel the sequel will give him an opportunity to develop a score that is more epic and more in touch with what we have come to expect -- though I have zero problems with the different direction this film went in. Bravo.
