Thanks, I'll pass.
By GreginWA

Yknow, there was a time in my life, in my teens and early twenties, when I loved attending conventions. You could buy a $15 or $20 ticket, watch trailers, attend Q & As, talk to the celeb(s), get their autographs, and walk away feeling like you didn't break the bank to have a good day. Now, they want HUNDREDS of dollars from fans to attend these so-called Star Trek events. Seriously, is the fanbase even that strong anymore? There hasn't been a convention here in the Pacific Northwest in a few years, and I can't say that I've missed them. Hell, I'm just as much a geek as anyone (I own 3 series worth of DVDs, and I have my collection of original series castmember autographs on the wall behind me), but there becomes a point in a man's life where forking over a couple hundred dollars toward a convention celebrating shows which are close to or over 10 years old (not counting Enterprise.... no one celebrates Enterprise) is not as fun as dropping the same amount of money on new lawn and yard stuff at the Home Depot!

I guess I've grown up! I can't believe I actually got to the point in my life where I considered conventions and waste of time and money. But, yknow, when you attend two or three of these things, and realize that they are all the same damned program just repeated every 6 months or so, you realize that you're wasting time and money. So, like the subject line says, I'll pass. I hope those that do go have a great time, but for me I'm having trouble celebrating a franchise which sold out years ago.
