When I saw First Contact, I remember watching a little kid just basking in the moment, waving his arms like a conductor when the Courage fanfare played. I remember feeling pretty much the same way when I was a kid and heard the theme towards the end of Star Trek IV.

He composed one of the most recognizable, memorable pieces of music in television history. As much as John Williams nailed Indy and Star Wars, Alexander Courage nailed the TOS theme and that great fanfare. Those ten notes alone have actually brought a lot of joy to a lot of people.

A great loss.
