Countdown to takedown
By sb2004

Countdown to Paramount forcing TrekWeb to take the images down in 5...4...3...2...

Seriously, though, nothing hugely problematic here. In fact the designs seem closer to the way things looked in TOS which is comforting (to the poster who says the drama is most important, yes it is, but this is a franchise that has spent the last 40 years debating how many rivets the second hull of the 1701 has, so it's a big deal for details to be consistent with the original series).

The only concern I have is the insignia looks closer to the TNG-era Trek logo and it also appears to be a pin as opposed to being sewn in as it was in the series. But this is minor, TOS established that different branches of Starfleet used different insignias until TMP anyway, and we have no way of knowing in what context this uniform is being used in, if at all.

Regarding my opening comment, AICN said Paramount forced them to take the images down in record time. Personally, if Paramount wants to avoid another 14 MONTHS of this sort of thing, they'd be better off releasing some publicity pics now. Yes, I know they want to keep as much a surprise as possible, but that's simply no longer possible in the Internet age (I expect the script to appear online before summer, despite their best efforts). They should act now so that at least they have a little bit of control over the images that get out there. Hell, even a publicity shot of Nimoy in Spock make-up might be enough.
