"Logic Is The Beginning Of Wisdom"
By Hot-4-Saavik

I am disturbed by any actor who approaches the role of Spock with the idea that he is driven purely by logic, just like all Vulcans.

What Mr. Quinto, and I'm afraid most other people who aspire to the role forget is that the beauty and tragedy of the character of Spock is that his human half, in his youth, was something to be ashamed of. Shame is a concept that is all but absent today, so it's no wonder they don't understand it. It is his shame at being half human, with all of the internal struggles that implies, that made the character so compelling to people who saw themselves in the character. The role of Spock is not a prize to be won; The role of Spock is a responsibility. The reason Spock's popularity skyrocketed in ways NBC could never have dared dreamed of at the time, was best described by Kirk in TWOK: His soul was the most human. More than any other character on the show, he held up the mirror to the audience. Any actor with "logic" on the brain is missing the point.
