The old and the new...
By DavidDownUnder

I've got to wonder if one way to handle this might not be to do the movie with a few Big Names and Recognisable Faces, but mixed in with the core of a new crew (provided the newcomers are well written and have enough screen time and at least the seeds of characterisation- and relationship-building in the movie), then spin this off into a quality series (with high production values like Battlestar Galactica, rather than something churned out).

You could use the same sets, the same new actors and even toss in one of the Recognisable Faces every now and again for a bit of a ratings-boosting event -- hell, if you planned it right you could have the first few eps in the can by the time the movie in premieres, so the TV series can cash on the movie's publicity. See the movie, then while it's still very fresh in your memory start watching the TV series which picks up from the movie.

2c. Ping!
