Rebellious punk offspring
By MikeJonas

I was watching a few episodes of Firefly just a little while ago with my mother and my little brother (neither of whom are sci-fi fans), and I was just looking for the right way to describe Firefly's relationship to Trek...Whedon hit it right on the head.

TOS was Trek in its own rebellious youth, TNG is its older, primmer grownup self, DS9 the overachieving but unsung older child, VOY the underachieving kid who finds his niche as the class clown, and ENT the bland lobotomized baby cut down just when its potential was finally starting to show. Firefly might be the rebellious punk that goes against the modern Trek era grain, but in doing so, it recalls the fun of Kirk's time.
