A fond farewell to a great director
By Nuclearmothman

Robert Wise will be missed, especially by the science-fiction community. His "The Day the Earth Stood Still," and "The Andromeda Strain" are both examples of sci-fi done right.

"Star Trek: The Motion Picture" continued Wise's tradition of intelligent, thoughtful, and beautifully photographed sci-fi films And even though it has been unfortunately eclipsed by the whiz-bang, showstopping action of "Wrath of Khan" (one of my personal favorites), it is still a remarkable achievement as a motion picture and a Star Trek movie.

ST:TMP, is, arguably, the most ambitious, the most epic, the most "Star Trek" of all the Star Trek features. The original cast never looked better. The re-fitted U.S.S. Enterprise looked incredible. The Drydock sequence almost made one believe the ship was really up there in orbit.

I, for one, am very glad Paramount Pictures did something right for once, and allowed Mr. Wise to fulfill his vision of Star Trek with the "Director's Edition."

Bon Voyage, Mr. Wise. The Human Adventure Has Just Begun.
