Beam Me UP Scotty Event
By gar

I had the privilege to attend the entire Beam Me Up Scotty event. I was the man in the original Star Trek uniform who danced with the bright blue haired woman in the Star Trek The Next Generation uniform at the friday night cocktail party. I talked with Jimmy's wife, who was kind enough to let me give him my 1923 lucky silver dollar. It brought a smile to his face that I will always treasure. I also met his sons Chris and Monty. They played at the cocktail party in the band The Mudd Flapps. They also took time to talk with me and I enjoyed their music. I payed to be able to sit in the 2nd row. It was worth every penny, however my only regret was that I should have paid for the top package with a front row seat. The convention was hectic because I was constantly on the run. I managed to get all of the surviving original cast's signatures, a picture with the entire group and individual pictures with Jimmy, Bill and leonard. Saturday, I sat one table away from Jimmy and his wife at the banquet and tribute. Charles Napier sat at my table. He was quite a character. I liked him so much that I tracked him down the next day. I asked him to say his line for me. It was after Dr. McCoy had checked out the space hippies. He not only said it but acted it out as well. He remembered me from the banquet and when I payed for his picture and autograph, he said "I like you!" He then grabbed a second different picture and signed it and gave it to me also. Monday, I went through the Hollywood Entertainment Museum. George was sitting in the captains chair on the bridge from Star Trek The Next Generation. He gave me a warm greeting and shook my hand as I sat next to him for a picture. Tuesday August 31st 2004 "Scotty" James Doohan received his star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame just in front of the Hollywood Entertainment Museum. That's just down from the famous Chinese Theater where the crew had placed their foot and hand prints years before. There's even a cool bronze plaque located in the center with good old NCC1701 Enterprise on it. Again, I dressed in my original Star Trek uniform. I had a place close to the front but was pulled away for a few news interviews. In a short time the crowd had filled in so I had to stretch my armes as high into the air as possible to film the event on my 16oz JVC digital video camera. I fried under the hot L.A. sun and the sweat poured down my face. It was so bad that I had to use one hand to hold my DV camera and make like a windshield wipper on my face with my other hand. This went on for more than half an hour but it was such a joy to be there that I'd do it all over again. From friday to tuesday, I was living my dream. I always wanted to not only get autographs and pictures with the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise but to interact with them. From Leonard's warm friendly handshake that lasted so long as he talked to me that the photographer finally said let's move things along and took our picture while we were still shaking hands to George's resonanting voice as he proclaimed "Ooohh, your a Hoosier!", it was truely a dream come true. I only have video of the event with no pictures as my memory card was missing from my new JVC digital video camera that also takes pictures. So if anyone has pictures of the event, especially of me dancing with the woman with the bright blue hair, I would greatly appreciate it if you could send me some. Please forgive my run on sentences or bad grammer in general. It is 4:30am and I need to rest. I got on here to make a small comment about the event but my story about the great time that I had just came flowing out of me. I am working on a presentation of my video of "Scotty" receiving his star. The Anderson Indiana library is going to get back with me around 9/13/04 about holding the event there in the future, if possible.Thank-you for letting me share my once in a life-time experience.
