Depth of character
By Deslok

Depth of character for Trip probably means in some ways, depth of character for everybody.

"It's another layer to play, but I don't know if it's necessarily a change,"

Subtlety is the key to making it work, Trinneer understands this.

"T'Pol's character has a lot of ability controlling emotion, and they begin to form a connection with one another dealing with that, that may or may not evolve into something a little more interesting."

I can understand T'Pol losing control of her emotions due to the effects of the Delphic Expanse, but why do she and Trip have to have a "connection"? According to what I've seen of Vulcans before, they don't easily think of themselves as sexual beings like humans do. They have a cyclical sex drive, and then there's the whole Ponn Farr controversy and whether Vulcan females go through it as well.

"Honestly, after a certain point, I thought it was hokey," he says. "Come on, you're going to make me play the harmonica?\

I wonder if they wanted to put a jug of hard cider and wrestling posters in his quarters too.

Trinneer plays his role on the show with a lot of charisma, he has the kind of charisma that Shatner had, but his character lacks the judgement of Kirk. Bakula's character is inexperienced by design, but with the character and fast learning curve to be able to adapt to new command decisions. The pair started out as freinds, but I think that instead of being buddies, they should have a falling out (due to events as we saw in "Cogenitor") and a subsequent reconciliation of their freindship a year or two down the line. There have been rumblings of discontent from the beginning with Trip wanting to go on away missions and Archer saying something like "We need you here" or "Next time". Whatever happens, it looks like Trip is headed for a lot of conflict and interesting sub-plots in the future.
