Hello %%first_name%%!
Happy Black History Month! Star Trek has long been a pioneer in portraying
minorities in positive and prominent roles on television. Remember,
the original series featured television's first interracial kiss
between William Shatner and Nichelle Nichols.
Join us in celebrating the diversity that Star Trek has brought into
all our lives and the progress toward the dream of a hopeful future
for all mankind that it has helped inspire in us all.
It's February Sweeps and although the buzz on Star Trek: Enterprise's prospects for a fourth season on UPN haven't exactly been glowing, we can at least be thankful that a Star Trek series is here to greet us for the 18th February in a row! Voyager fans have another reason to cheer, as this month marks the arrival of that series on DVD.
This month we'll wrap up big news headlines over the last four weeks and Jackie Bundy has provided all the latest news from the world of Trek publishing with her Star Trek In Print column. We've selected another winner of a Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Season Five DVD Set this month, so don't forget to check the Prize Winners listing to see if you're the lucky winner.
As we embark on what could be the last months of new Star Trek on television, let me thank everyone who has supported TrekWeb since 1996 and assure you that whether the show goes on or not, TrekWeb won't be going anywhere (if we can help it)!
Peace and long life,
Steve Krutzler, Editor

The A Time to… series of Next Generation novels begins approximately a year before the events of Star Trek: Nemesis and attempts to address some of the questions raised by that movie while at the same time telling five unique stories over the course of nine novels that involve the TNG crew. The first of those mass-market paperback novels, A Time to be Born by John Vornholt hits bookstores this month.
While patrolling the Rashanar Sector, the site of one of the Dominion Wars largest and costliest battles, the Enterprise-E crew becomes caught up in a maelstrom of events beyond their control that threatens to end Picard's career. The first half of a two-part story ( A Time to Die by the same author is due in March), A Time to be Born gets the ball rolling adequately enough and takes the first steps towards answering many of those questions. It certainly leaves you wanting to know what happens next. An excerpt from the novel is available at http://www.psiphi.org/cgi/upc-db/excerpt/0743467655.html
Also new this month is part two of the Starfleet Corps eBook title The Demon by Loren L. Coleman and Randall N. Bills. This is a really excellent story, pure Science Fiction with great character development and the first trek offering by this well respected writing duo. Both parts of The Demon are available for download in all three eBook formats.
The mass-market paperback reprint of Captain's Peril by William Shatner and Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens is now available. Originally released as a hardback in 2002 Bill Williams review of this title is available at http://trekweb.com/stories.php?aid=chV/uOtEGNBuA
Another Shatner reprint is also available, this one a non-fiction title; the trade paperback edition of I'm Working on That: A Trek from Science Fiction to Science Fact co-authored by Chip Walter. E xamining the connection between the science fiction universe of Star Trek and our current understanding of science fact Shatner and Walters toured the country to find out what Star Trek inventions are likely to pop into reality in the near future. To look for answers they visited some of the premier think tanks and universities in the US posing questions to several leading researchers. Using Star Trek episodes as a light-hearted guide numerous areas of Star Trek science and technology are examined in t his unique title that is both surprisingly readable and entirely fascinating.
