May 12 | "J.J. is one of those people who has the ability to re-introduce water to you in a new way. He's such a creative man," said actor Faran Tahir, who plays Federation Captain Robau in the new movie to National Ledger "I love what he's done with it because he hasn't said farewell to the tradition or the story of 'Star Trek,' but he has such a fresh approach to it that I think he will re-introduce it to this generation in a way they can relate. STFCWEB won several accolades before going offline several months following the release of the film, including recognition from Microsoft Corporation for implementation of its now-defunct Active-X dynamic web language (then a competitor with JAVA) and a showcase in the EPCOT Center Innovations exhibit in Orlando, FL for that award.
TrekWeb began as a companion to STFCWEB and soon became a general TREK news and information site after interest in the film had waned. Offering weekly episode reviews, Internet-transcriptions of DS9 co-producer/writer Ronald D. Moore's America Online question and answer sessions, and the latest in STAR TREK news, TrekWeb quickly became known as the best STAR TREK site on the web in both design and content. In 1997, Moore joined TrekWeb for our first online web chat where fans participated in a discussion with the writer, asking questions about the series DEEP SPACE NINE in real-time through our web site.
Since then, TrekWeb Celebrity Chats have become a mainstay of our offerings, having hosted many TREK writers, producers, actors and other behind the scenes personnel including Michael Piller, Ira Steven Behr, Michael Taylor, Jay Chattaway, Bryan Fuller, Robert Hewitt Wolfe, Armin Shimmerman, Tim Russ, Bradley Thompson, Lolita Fatjo, Eric Stillwell and David R. George III, and our latest ENTERPRISE chats with staff writer Andre Bormanis. Transcripts are available at the Live Events page.
Today TrekWeb is the premiere STAR TREK web site, serving daily news on all aspects of the franchise including early episode plot information, feature film production reports and early script reviews, the latest in TREK merchandise and more. TrekWeb is also a major destination for original STAR TREK features, with regular new episode, novel, collectible, product and game reviews. We also boast one of the largest collections of original interview features with TREK personalities including William Shatner, Rick Berman, John Logan, Tom Hardy, Patrick Stewart, Stuart Baird, Marina Sirtis, Brent Spiner, Robert Picardo, Jeffrey Combs, Rene Auberjonois, Michael Piller, Nicole deBoer, Doug Drexler, Rick Sternbach and more (see Review and Article Archive).
TrekWeb also provides story commenting, where visitors react directly to news stories and features as well as the STAR TREK BBS, one of the largest and oldest STAR TREK fan communities on the Internet where visitors chat regularly in various forums about all things TREK and beyond. TrekWeb also served STENTERPRISE.com, a resource for all the latest news and information about the fifth and current STAR TREK series from 2001-2003. STNEMESIS.com was our companion to the tenth STAR TREK feature film, which hit U.S. theaters December 13th, 2002.
TrekWeb In The Media
TrekWeb is a nationally-recognized web site and is known within the industry and out as one of the most reliable and prestigious STAR TREK web sites around. Not only do we have press contacts with Paramount Pictures, the production company that owns the STAR TREK properties, for television and feature publicity and merchandise reviews, but we have insider contacts all over the industry and with publications like the Star Trek: Communicator and the official STAR TREK web site, startrek.com.
In
1998 TrekWeb received print recognition in Cinescape
Magazine's March/April issue for our online chat with then-STAR TREK: INSURRECTION
screenwriter Michael Piller. Later that year, Yahoo!
Internet Life Magazine rated TrekWeb the number one STAR TREK web site on
the Internet and our companion site ST-INSURRECTION.com the number one resource
for information about the ninth TREK feature film. TrekWeb's noteriety even
allowed founder Steve Krutzler to attend the world premiere
of INSURRECTION in Las Vegas, NV with Piller and his family.
In
the fall of 2001 Steve Krutzler made his first radio appearance,
joining the hosts of the Orlando science fiction radio talk show The
Sci-Fi Files to talk about the buzz surrounding the new STAR TREK series,
ENTERPRISE. In July and December of 2002 Krutzler also joined The
Warp Zone, a science fiction program in Wichita, Kansas to talk about the
new feature film STAR TREK: NEMESIS and the second season of ENTERPRISE. Krutzler has also been a guest twice (in 2003 and 2004) on THE EVENING SHOW on BBC South Radio.
In the summer of 2002, TrekWeb
received national television recognition for our review of the Michael
Piller-produced series THE DEAD ZONE on the USA
Cable Network. In an advertisement running frequently for several weeks
after the record-setting premiere of THE DEAD ZONE, TrekWeb was quoted alongside
the New York Daily News and the Wall Street Journal and received on-screen credit
seen nationwide.
TrekWeb
was also featured in the July 12, 2002 issue of Entertainment
Weekly, where our exclusive preview of an interview with STAR TREK producer
Rick Berman from the latest issue of the Star Trek: Communicator
earned in-print credit from this well respected and highly-read periodical.
In December of 2002 TrekWeb also received national recognition in three major publications. Founder Steve Krutzler was quoted as a STAR TREK expert in articles in TIME Magazine, Fox News and the L.A. Times.
Krutzler and TrekWeb were quoted in a special STAR TREK feature article in the February 21st, 2003 issue of TV Guide.
In July, 2003, TrekWeb received another national recognition when Krutzler was quoted as a STAR TREK expert in an article documenting the Activision lawsuit against Viacom for breach of contract at E! Online. TrekWeb has since been cited in articles by Maureen Ryan at the Chicago Tribune (April 2004) and Bill Keveney at USA Today (May 2004).
In addition, TrekWeb and its exclusive features and news scoops are regularly featured on prominent and popular online outlets like Dark Horizons, Ain't It Cool News, Yahoo! Movies, BBC Online, Cinescape, WilliamShatner.com and more. TrekWeb's Steve Krutzler is available for interviews as a STAR TREK expert and a commentator on the online STAR TREK scene.
