Topic: sci fi actresses

A lot of actresses either got their start on Trek or had early career appearances on Trek, including:

Teri Garr
Mariette Hartley
Joan Collins
Kirstie Alley
Kim Catrell
and many more

These actresses always make a special point of distancing themselved from Trek after they get "real" acting jobs.

Some actresses like Jeri Ryan have done OK after Trek, while others like Terri Farrell and Denise Crosby never had it so good as when they were on Trek. And as much as some actors and actresses want to get away from Trek, others like Whoopie Goldberg were dying to get on the show.

I don't understand why there is such a stigma in Hollywood of being associated with Trek. Anytime a Trek actor turns up in another movie -- from Miss Congeniality to Santa Clause -- all the Trek fans watch it just to see their favorite Trek actors in other roles. And dont we all get a kick out of seeing even minor guest stars from Trek turn up in other shows.

Trek fans are -- if nothing else -- devoted couch potatoes that watch a lot of TV movies other than sci-fi. I'm convinced that the success of Boston Legal is in part due to the numerous Trek alums and that make loyal Trek fans a large share of the audience. I don't understand why TPTB in Hollywood dont recognize this fact and make a deliberate effort to tap the loyal Trek base by giving work to Trek actors and actresses.
