Topic: Goldsmith Tribute
I just also wanted to add my thoughts on Mr. Goldsmith's passing as well. When you think of STAR TREK music, only a few really big names come to mind, and one of them is Jerry Goldsmith. His beautiful score for TMP set the tone for so much of the TREK music to come in the 80's, 90's, and this decade.

No matter what musical score you listen to, whether it's one of the TREK films, THE MUMMY, AIR FORCE ONE, SUPERGIRL, to name but just a few off the top of my head, Goldsmith had his finger on the pulse of music, rivalling that of John Williams or John Barry. Even in the whole controversy of STAR TREK: NEMESIS, when some people argued for a fresh musical approach to the film or for Hans Zimmer to score the film, Jerry Goldsmith maintained the musical consistency of the series with musical cues that were at times big and adventurous, at other times simple and poignant, but altogether completely beautiful.

And now his baton is silent way too soon. He may be gone now, but his music will live forever in our hearts and in the CDs, tapes, and albums in our collections.

TrekWeb will be doing a special tribute piece to the legacy of Jerry Goldsmith in the coming days, with reflections from some very special contributors, so be on the lookout for it.
