The Cage and Unification Actor Malachi Throne Dies at Age 84

Features

By GustavoLeao / 16:40, 15 March 2013 / People

Actor Malachi Throne passed away on March 13 at the age of 84, reports StarTrek.com.

Throne was a Star Trek favorite thanks to his several appearances playing several charaters on pivotal episodes of TOS and The Next Generation.

For TOS, he provided the voice of The Keeper in 1964 pilot episode “The Cage”. Later he played Commodore Jose I. Mendez in “The Menagerie” two-parter; his casting in the latter prompted the producers to recast the voice of The Keeper.

Years later, in 1991, on TNG he portrayed Pardek, a duplicitous Romulan senator who help Sela capture Spock, in “Unification I” and “Unification II.”

Mr. Throne was a great character actor with a really distinctive who kept busy thru the years and always seemed to pop up in some great genre shows.

More recently he was one of the voices of the Guardians of the Universe in the animated Green Lantern: First Flight movie (along with fellow Trek alum William Schallert).

Really sad and sorry to read of his passing.

He played Noah Bain, Alexander Mundy's boss on 'It Takes A Thief'.

RIP Malachi.

I always liked the guy, whether in Trek or Batman or other stuff. He always played a great villain. RIP.

Great name, by the way.

“I think it would be wonderful years from now to see Star Trek come back with an equally talented new cast playing Spock and Kirk and Bones and Scotty and all the rest, as they say tomorrow's things to tomorrow's generations.” - Gene Roddenberry.

... that he was the same actor.

My thoughts go to any family and friends of his.
