During the BAFTA Film Awards in London, actress Alive Eve (Carol Marcus) has outright denied that Benedict Cumberbatch is playing Khan in Star Trek Into Darkness. Eve flat out denied (to BAFTAonline) the reports saying "he’s not playing Khan."

I'm glad someone other than Pegg is denying it now. It's not a spoiler at this point if he's not playing Khan. If he were playing Khan, it would be very dumb to make it a "surprise," because Khan would be something they would WANT to market. To NOT market Khan is for lack of a better word, illogical.

I'm still wondering if this Harrison is the same Harrison from TOS. If it is, then Orci told the truth, and the villain is a canon character. If not, then this is the lie Orci admitted to telling. That said, a lie like this isn't a big deal, but it's a head scratcher.

Why lie about that?

If you say the villain is from canon, and he isn't, what is gained?

Upon hearing that the villain is canon, fans talk, speculate, and get disappointed that they were lied to.

If you tell the truth, and say the villain is not from canon, then the fans talk, speculate, and do NOT get disappointed because they were NOT lied to.

Your comments generate buzz either way, but you don't gain anything by lying.

I don't think announcing that the villain is a new character will generate negative buzz--at least, not enough to be a big deal.

That said, I don't think this is the most harmful lie either, because I don't think anyone had their heart set on a canon villain.

It's just an odd lie. Gain nothing, annoy a few people, and that's that.
