This is just merchandising BS. I remember when Superman Returns came out they had some sort of Superman motorcycle toy thing which didn't reflect anything in the movie, and the Keaton and Bale Batman movies both had toys attached to them that had d**k all to do with the movies.
That said, the laugh was appreciated on a tough day.
...but I think you let your drunken emotions speak on this one. These are toys which are almost assuredly loosely based on the movie and are designed to enhance the play features, nothing else.

Unless you have some information that you haven't included, it doesn't say anywhere in the article that these are directly involved in the movie.
Is it possible that these are perhaps just some cheap movie merchandise that is only barely connected to the movie? Like their Star Wars counterparts?

The central question that emerges . . . is whether the White community in the South is entitled to take such measures as are necessary to prevail, politically and culturally, in areas in which it does not prevail numerically? The sobering answer is Yes – the White community is so entitled because, for the time being, it is the advanced race. -- the eminent conservative rag, National Review
Putting it inside the deflector dish is obviously a way to sell a bigger collector set and still have someplace to put the container for all the figures.
Also, some of this stuff is simply non-canon for the movie unless Nero and the borg are making a comeback, because nero is one of the figures.
Thirdly this could just be some toy company thing to include a fancy container for the figures.
Finally, I don't care really whether Starfleet steals mid 1990s Kazon technology (and that is what it seems like).

...when a Batman movie would come out. No official toys or very few and then there were a zillion crazy toys that were barely related but cool looking for kids. I never was into that stuff to collect, but it looked nice for kids. Or all the bazillion wacky Batman Animated toys with all the weird suits? Fun!
I prefer that approach to shoehorning things into a story to sell toys. Star Trek and fighter pods? Sigh.
Maybe now that he actually has his mitts into Star Wars he'll stop trying to turn Star Trek into it.
