New Khan Rumors Appears for Star Trek Into Darkness, TrekMovie Comments on the Rumors

Features

By GustavoLeao / 03:52, 8 February 2013 / Star Trek: Nemesis

The cover of the February 15th issue of the EW magazine has been revealed, titled "Voyage Into the New 'Star Trek'" and featuring a shot of Cumberbatch and Chris Pine's Captain Kirk (well, one of the covers, anyway -- an alternate features Kirk and Zachary Quinto's Spock). Now, this may not be anything more than just a reference to a rumor that refuses to die, but the companion headline to the issue on EW's Back Issues store says "Voyage Into the New 'Star Trek' Kirk & Khan."

But  here is what is said about Khan in the actual EW cover story written by Geoff Boucher:

Unconfirmed rumors suggest that Harrison also goes by the name of Khan, the genetically upgraded tyrant portrayed by Ricardo Montalban in a February 1967 episode of the original series, as well as in 1982′s big-screen Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.

In addition while it is true that Benedict Cumberbatch’s villain has been identified as Khan by TrekMovie.com (see spoiler article)…as well as other sources, this is still considered officially a rumor as it hasn’t been confirmed on the record by anyone related to the film.

The original report can be found at TrekMovie.com

The Real John Harrison | Report this post to moderator

Maybe someone can glean some clues from the real John Harrison: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Harrison

Either "John Harrison" was chosen at random (doubtful) or was a conscience decision, which may mean something about the real John Harrison may provide a clue. We know from "LOST" that they like to use the names of real historical figures.

Remember when I kept saying how adept JJ was at marketing and hype? Look at how the his supposed reputation for "secrecy" has led to waves and waves of free PR surrounding the villain's identity. In fact, can anyone name me another aspect of the movie PR on this site other than stuff that fuels this speculation?

He knows geekery and he knows the game. Let's see how the srory plays out. Well played, Abrams.
