LeVar Burton Says He Enjoyed J.J. Abrams Reboot of the Star Trek Franchise And Wants to Find What Abrams Wants to Talk Next

By GustavoLeao / 12:42, 11 January 2013 / Star Trek: Nemesis

WhatCulture posted a new interview with TNG actor LeVar Burton and here is an excerpt.

Finally, getting back to Star Trek, did you see J.J Abrams movie? What did you think of it?

LB: Yes I did, I loved it! The first one, I loved it!

There are some Star Trek fans who are not happy with the more action centric nature of his version of Star Trek, it is less cerebral shall we say. What are your thoughts on that?

LB: Well, I enjoyed the reboot and now I’m interested in seeing what he wants to talk about with the next film. Now he’s got our attention and reestablished his timeline with his cast, now we will find what JJ wants to talk about, wont we?

Do you get a special preview before all of us do?

LB: No? Why would I!

I thought it might be a perk of the job, having been Chief Engineer on the Enterprise.

LB: It does, in J.J Abrams universe [Laughs]

The full interview is here.

Burton "loved it"... | Report this post to moderator

*Well, obviously that makes him just another "stupid Abrams worshiper". I mean, what would LeVar Burton know about "Star Trek", unlike those "real" fans who post on here that hated every minute of the 2009 film, in some cases before they had even seen a single minute of it?

*-Tongue firmly in cheek.

You know, I used to think Star Trek fans were more intelligent than the ones of other franchises. Unfortunately, my 14 years of posting on this site and its previous incarnations have often proved otherwise. You would think the average fan would know the goals and achievements a summer blockbuster film must reach, as opposed to a television series which can hit on many themes over the course of an entire year -- be they cerebral, emotional, humorous, science-heavy, etc. If we get a new series in a few years, I would imagine it will be in this new universe and it will be much more in tone with the "Trek" we know. In the meantime? Freaking grab your popcorn on May 13th and just enjoy the ride!
