Screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects, Valkyrie, The Wolverine), who has been attached to Skydance Productions' possible U.S. live-action film remake to Space Battleship Yamato (Star Blazers), revealed in a recent interview that the film is still in negotiations. When asked about the status of the film, McQuarrie said:

"Yes, the longest rights negotiation of planet Earth. I think we're very very close to finally… there's one last piece in the chain that needs to be worked out and when that's done I would immediately be able to start writing that."

A Japanese Yamato movie was released in Japan in December 2010 and became a big box-office hit.

I asked this before but no one has ever answered me. Why is this film such a big deal to TrekWeb? What's the Trek connection?
