Benedict Cumberbatch Also Reveals Details of His Villain John Harrison in Star Trek Into Darkness - MINOR SPOILER

Features

By GustavoLeao / 11:14, 23 December 2012 / Star Trek: Nemesis

Following the reveal earlier this month that Benedict Cumberbatch's Star Trek Into Darkness villain goes by the mysterious name of "John Harrison", TrekMovie.com and GyaO! caught up with actor Benedict Cumberbatch himself and here is an excerpt.

"When J.J. described the role to me… he described someone who was, in movie terms, a mixture of Hannibal Lecter, Jack in 'The Shining", and the Joker in 'Batman'," Cumberbatch told GyaO!. "...He's someone who has enormous physical strength. He's someone who is incredibly dangerous, both as a physical entity and through the use of various technologies and weapons and who performs acts of what I would describe as terrorism. He's also a psychological master. He manipulates the minds of those around him to do his bidding in a very, very subtle way."

It would be an interesting idea to get away from the maniac evil villain in the next one. Too late for this one, and given that Nero really wasn't that great a villain, Harrison can easily top Nero.

TVH worked. I don't know if this crew is ready for a light hearted comedy like movie, but what made TVH different was not only that, but the villain really wasn't a villain. It was an alien race sending out a probe to find out what happened.

Kirk and crew can deal with a threat without necessarily staring down a bad guy.

TMP is an example of that, but it was just a lousy script.

It has nothing to do with sitting in a theater for 2 hours. It just was a boring movie. You can do good sci-fi without being boring.

The single evil villain is overused. His critique isn't a bad one.

I just don't know if THIS team can handle it.

I love TMP. It introduced me to Stra Trek and while not as good as the Harve Bennett TOS movies, it was an epic, cerebral amd amazing movie to see in the big screen.A fter seeing TMP, I was a fan for life. A very different kind of Trek movie. Bod Wise was a awesome director and perfect choice to direct that movie..

While Cumberbatch is clearly not Khan (for that I'm happy, and I don't think he's really Khan with John Harrison being his Sheep Clothing), but its very possible Khan is still a part of this story. We've all been thinking that Cumberbatch took the role that Benecio Del Toro turned down, but I'm not so sure that's the case. If it was Khan, I think they're seperate roles in the film.

Having one descpicable villain after another hits me as kinda boring. It seems to be that this guy is leagues BETTER than Nero, but I dunno. Feels like a superhero movie.
