living in darkness / longing for hope
I remember when trekkers said they were trekkers because ST was different, because in ST most important thing was brain and not brawn...where are you right now, pals?
Abrams did not want to direct Star Wars. In Star Wars he could be the director of the film, but not the Master, not il capo di tutti i capi. Disney would be. In ST he is the superboss. He can change all in ST. He can destroy all: body and soul. And people cheer up.
Ok. My opinion about this 9 minutes.
is this ST? seriously? It looks like a trailer of GIJOE. Same feeling for me -I mean, no star trek feeling. Uniforms are ugly, Kirk seems Flash Gordon and Quinto is a horrible vulcan. And SPOCK is NOT an action character. It's not.
This pseudo Spock is an antivulcan character,in fact. Scottie seems again a clown. In opera slang: contrapunto comico.
A mindless, mindling mess made by a guy schooled in the Bay-Bruckheimer Academy. Star Wars serie B. When Abrams wants to create excitement and tension has the camera shake up around a long in close-up. Poor trick.
Shake camera 2013...
Roddenberry-Berman days, when stories might play with questions of science ,ideas, and philosophy have been replaced by stories like this: reduce a colorful action and loud action. Use and throw away movies.
Ok, an intelligent plot is difficult. And Orci is...beh, Orci. 'Poca cosa'. An original plot, too:
Genesis wave, ST novel plot:
" A misterious wave of energy is sweeping across the alpha quadrant, transforming matter on a molecular level. Billions of livings beings and hundreds of inhabitants worlds lie in the path of the mutagenic wave, wich is expanding upward toward earth."
A wave of pure terror...
I bet Orci has read this novel...
Efx are goods. Beh, with $180 millions is not a impossible mission.
Ok, do you remember when Rick Berman ( star trek best producer ever) was smashed by some trekkers? Day after day, week after week, year after year...Yes? Good.
I got halfway through it before turning it off. That woman laughing at everything (I don't really see what is so funny) is absolutely infuriating.
It reminds me of when I saw Insurrection. This fat woman started laughing right when they got to the point where Riker uses a joystick to control the Enterprise. I have a negative view of the whole movie to this day because of that.

I agree with everything you said. Spock was the one who would always die for the prime directive and Kirk is the one who will bend it to make sure his friend never does. It has always been like that in TOS and I feel like they did a great job with this all in nine minutes.
If you ask me it is strait up Kirk, Spock, and McCoy from TOS. Without the baggage of old age and time that would have slown them down. I could imagine these guys getting a little older and turning into the ones in TOS.
These aren't the older more chiseled versions of their self. These are the younger more brash version. Can't we enjoy seeing both?

But from those pics all I have to say is... WTF are those uniforms???!!!
That woman giggling though the entire thing was adorable. I had a similar (though silent) reaction to the preview when I first saw it in the theater. So far at least, this is very a fun film, especially for something with "darkness" in the title.

So? I look at lots of atoms!

....I must have watched it 50 times on YouTube. When I was about to dowloadf they remove it. sigh
Muy interest on the movie is rising. The FX is incredible and Pine and Quinto are acting much better as Kirk and Spock this time.
You gonna love it.
