Star Trek: Nemesis
Access Hollywood has just
posted four separate interview snippets with Zachary Quinto, Chris Pine
and Benedict Cumberbatch discussing various aspects of "Star Trek Into
Darkness".
Cumberbatch, who plays the villain, John Harrison, in the film, was
in his own separate interview and was asked about his character, and
Cumberbatch responded, "I play a character called John and not that
other name (meaning Khan). It's interesting. Speculation is
speculation and that's all fun". He went on to state that his character
was a "terrorist", mirroring his sentiments in
our MTV interview
article today.
Pine, who plays Capt. Kirk, and Quinto, who plays Spock, were
interviewed together, and Access Hollywood has posted three segments of
their interview. In the first segment, the pair discuss how epic "Star
Trek Into Darkness" feels. Quinto says, "It is much bigger than the
first one ... can tell that in the first nine minutes ... does not get
any more subdued"..Quinto went on to mention that the film is
"submersive and absorbing".
The second Pine/Quinto segment speaks about how "Star Trek Into
Darkness" is a commentary on our times, much like the orginal series
allegorically spoke to the turbulent times of the 1960's. Pine
mentioned the fact that Cumberbatch's character was a "terrorist", and
how that relates to all Americans' lives within the last twelve years.
The third segment with Pine and Quinto dealt with the villain,
Cumberbatch's character. Pine stated, "Benedict is a much colder,
cleaner bad guy. His primary weapon is the ability to manipulate and
his ability to use psychological warfare on the crew. (Kirk is) brought
to his knees and has to face his own vulnerability ad his own feelings
of self-doubt about whether or not his is capable of leading his crew in
the battle".
