MAJOR NEWS : Description of the 9-Minute IMAX Footage Preview of Star Trek Into Darkness - SPOILERS

Features

By GustavoLeao / 10:35, 10 December 2012 / Star Trek: Nemesis

Before releasing its nine-minute footage at selected IMAX theaters with The Hobbit on December 14, the producers of Star Trek Into Darkness revealed the much-awaited preview on Sunday evening, December 9. Hosted by Paramount Pictures and Bad Robot, the secret screening was attended by press who were not allowed to let slip specific details of the clip.

ComingSoon.net managed to share a brief description of the footage, which reportedly still didn't uncover the identity of Benedict Cumberbatch's villainous character.

(Beware of Spoilers)

According to the site, the footage basically sparked more questions instead of answering fans' curiosity on the plot of the film. Besides not revealing who was the mystery villain, the footage also hinted that many of the scenes showcased in the recently-released trailer were "actually part of a separate adventure that joins the Enterprise crew in media res."

The video started with Noel Clarke's and Kayla Hassan's characters as they lived their ordinary life in the 23rd century. They were seen waking up and making some meals before going to a hospital, where their daughter was lying unconscious on bed. Those scenes were rolling out without dialog, but were only accompanied by Michael Giacchino's tearful score.

Realizing that he couldn't do anything to help his daughter, Clarke's character went outside before Cumberbatch's mystery villain approached the man and offered him some help. Clarke's unknown character asked Cumberbatch who he was, but the villainous character said nothing and just smiled.

According to Coming Soon, the rest of the footage saw the Enterprise "in the middle of a mission to the same red-colored planet" shown in the first trailer. Kirk and Bones "have been visiting the locals undercover" and they were making a "hasty escape."

Also shown in the footage was the Enterprise, which was hidden deep at the bottom of the planet's ocean, as they monitored Kirk and Bones' mission. Meanwhile, from a shuttle, Spock, Uhura and Sulu went into the volcano to prevent it from erupting. Lava wave was seen raising up and it looked as if Spock would not be getting out of it alive.

After the screening, Abrams pointed out that he hoped the footage would counter fans' reaction which assumed the Trek sequel was going to be very dark as teased in the title and the first trailer. The film would still involve a fun adventure and humors despite fans' over-analysis that it would be glum.
