Star Trek: Nemesis
On Monday, Zachary Quinto, who plays Spock in "Star Trek Into
Darkness", was a guest on TBS' Conan, and he teasingly offered a new
"clip" from the film.
Conan began the interview with a serious discussion about whether
Quinto was "scared" to take on the role of Spock due to the iconic
nature of the character, and Quinto implied that Spock was a daunting
character, but that the fans have been "incredibly supportive".
Quinto went on to say that Leonard Nimoy, the original Spock,
talked to him about taking on the role of Spock, and that Nimoy, too,
was very supportive, and that they had become "good friends". Quinto
did drop a bit of news by saying that he enjoyed working with Nimoy in
the first Trek film, but Quinto "is not working with him this time",
meaning that Nimoy is not in "Star Trek Into Darkness".
Then Quinto switched into a humorous mood, "complaining" that J.
J. Abrams, the director of "Star Trek Into Darkness", when he appeared
on Conan a few weeks ago, only showed three frames of the new film;
Quinto claimed such was "ridiculous". He went on to say that he "has
respect for your audience and wanted to bring something today that was
more than that", meaning the three frames.
Quinto said that "I didn't tell J. J. and I didn't tell Paramount"
that he was bringing the footage, and that he hoped the new clip "will
give an idea of what is happening in this film and what is really
driving the movie forward with these characters and their obstacles".
Conan then proceded to introduce the "clip", which was really a
live skit of Quinto in Spock's tunic behind a moon-like backdrop.
Quinto deadpaned, "Jim, we have to get back to the ship. There are
aliens and they will explode". The audience went wild, and Conan
finished by saying, "No knock against J. J. ... that movie looks
terrible!"
During the interview, Quinto did plug the upcoming 9-minute preview
of "Star Trek Into Darkness" which will play before IMAX showings of
"The Hobbit", beginning on December 14th.
