TrekWeb received the following message from the producers of the Star Trek Renegades independent web series :
Every good film has a good bad guy - a
villian, nemesis, archenemy. Who better to play a role like that in Star
Trek than veteran actor J.G. Hertzler? Hertzler will play Renegades main villain, named Borrada.
John Garman Hertzler is best-known for playing Chancellor Martok on Deep Space Nine. However, his "Star Trek" links go back to 1990, when he appeared in an episode of Quantum Leap opposite Scott Bakula, the man who became Jonathan Archer.
When auditioning for the role of Martok for Deep Space Nine, the casting director told him to show more anger so he threw a chair at a wall. The display cost him a thumbnail, but won him the role.
Good-natured, yet violent outbursts against furniture seem to be a specialty of his. During an interview for a German public access channel he demonstrated what an outside linebacker (his position in college football) is, by suddenly throwing a table over.
He is one of only four actors to play seven different characters on Star Trek. He played the Vulcan captain of the U.S.S. Saratoga, General/Chancellor Martok, Roy Rittenhouse and Laas on Deep Space Nine, a Hirogen hunter on Voyager, and Kolos and a Klingon captain on Enterprise.
Hertzler has appeared in some TV movies and made guest appearances in TV shows such as Six Feet Under, Roswell, Charmed and Highlander: The Series. He also appeared in the series Zorro (1991–1993) as Alcalde Ignacio De Soto.
JG became an active fighter in finding a cure for sclerodermia (a lethal disease of the skin) after his father died of it. He also contributed voice acting to several Star Trek computer games, including Star Trek Klingon, Star Trek: Armada I and II and Star Trek: Elite Force II.
The Star Trek Renegades production team also sent this message to TrekWeb readers and Star Trek Fans :
One week! That's how many days left in our Kickstarter funding drive. Still nearly $37,000 to go! Our funding drive ends November 26th at 7:21 am EST/4:21 PST. Kickstarter is an all-or-nothing platform - if we don't raise the entire $200,000 by that date, we don't receive a dime. Please help us bring this new Trek project to the screen. Click here or on the graphic below and pledge - even if it's just $25 (but of course, more is better - and you get way better stuff)!
Thank you,
