Star Trek Into Darkness Co-Writer Damon Lindelof Says There 'Could Be 12' New Star Wars Movies

Features

By GustavoLeao / 07:39, 11 November 2012 / Star Trek: Nemesis

According to Entertaimentwise, Star Trek Into Darkness co-writer/producer Damon Lindelof told the Rolling Stones magazine: "My understanding is that there's going to be a movie every two or three years, and they're not even calling it a new trilogy. I think one should look at it in more the same realm of the way that Star Trek worked. They made 12 of those things. It's going to be ongoing, and the story can sort of jump around as much as it likes, in the same way the Marvel universe can now."

Lindelof thinks that the reboot, apparently set for 2015, could be set to be the biggest film event ever, dwarfing even the huge anticipation that greeted 1999's 'Episode I: The Phantom Menace'.

The producer added: "But it is going to be – I can say this with 100 percent confidence three years out – the biggest event movie in the history of modern cinema. The level of excitement and anticipation about Episode VII is going to be double what it was for Episode I."

The original report is here.

Super! Who better than the cheap huckster Lindelof to usher in the corrosion of what was once an original and fun idea. OF COURSE they could maximize the profits by breaking the mold and birthing out one of these suckers every three years.

Maybe he could do a "Prometheus" to Star Wars and suck out all of the originality and decent storytelling and leave an empty CGI husk.

I'm glad I have a life.

Biggest movie event ever? WTF? | Report this post to moderator

Really Lindelof? Bigger than Gone with the Wind? Avatar? ET? Avengers?

What an idiot. This just goes to show his level of understanding of movie audiences. He is not a "fellow nerd" as he calls himself on Twitter. He is so far removed from the average sci-fi/genre fan, he's like the Donald Trump or Mitt Romney of movie producers (yeah, I went there). He's totally clueless to what we want.

You know, I doubt the new Star Wars would even close to the attendance of the 1976 film, or even Phantom Menace.

They could make 100 new SW movies and we'll know more about all of them than what we know about STID today.
