Star Trek Voyager star Kate Mulgrew has joined the cast of the new Netflix series Orange is the New Black, according to Deadline .
The series, created by Jenji Kohan, follows a young Brooklyn woman (played by Taylor Schilling) who lands in jail when her decade-old college relationship with a drug-runner (played by Laura Prepon) is revealed. Mulgrew will play Red, a Russian prisoner who runs the kitchen and serves as a den mother of sorts for the women.
