Chris Pine Hints at Star Trek XIII and Says He is Feeling Extra Pressure for Star Trek XII to be More Successful than the First Movie

By GustavoLeao / 10:37, 2 September 2012 / Star Trek: Nemesis

RTE posted a new interview with Star Trek XII star Chris Pine and here are excerpts.

He said: ''I probably feel the stakes are a bit bigger. The first one, we didn't have much to lose, because we didn't have much to lose! It was either going to be a great big hot and surprise everybody, or it was going to fall the down the drain and no one would've thought twice about it.

''And it just so happened it was pretty well received. So going into this one, I was so excited that we'd brought all these new fans to this franchise that I wanted to do my job to make sure they come back. And I also wanted to do justice to my fellow actors and to the writers, because it's such a good story.''

Pine also hinted that there will be a third movie saying: ''Knowing these guys, there's always a way to make some more instalments. I'm sure they've built-in something, I'm just not smart enough to have seen it! But I'm sure there's a way. What I do know from the start, in terms of structure, they've had an idea of where they want to take the whole thing, just like a television series. I'm very excited about Part 2.''

I wonder what Pine means by successful anyway.

Does the movie have to make more money than the last one in his eyes?

Personally, I don't it does. If the movie made HALF of what it made last time, I'm sure the studio won't be as happy, but it made so much last time that it's almost unfair to set the bar so high.

The last movie was well received, but it was not the best Star Trek movie in terms of quality.

Wrath of Khan is not only better, it kicks the living crap out of it. TMP was a massive financial hit, but I think it was so bad, I can't watch it.

It is VERY doable for them to make a better movie than the last one. They may have a very difficult time topping the box office, but they can definitely top the story. If I come out of that movie feeling that they nailed the characters better, and the story was better, and if it ranks higher in my Trek list, then it's a more successful movie. And any movie that does that will not bomb. It may not top the last movie in grosses, but it will still be a success.

There was no way to predict what Abrams would do with the last movie. This time around, we all know what he does, and have some realistic expectations. If he tops them, the movie will be a success. There's more to it than pure dollars.

I am beginning not to care. Immediate fantastic rumors followed by months of coverup and boring hype, "its the most exciting Trek ever made!"

"I do not have a receipt, I won it as a door prize at the "Star Trek" convention, although I find their choice of prize highly illogical as the average Trekker has no use for a medium-sized belt."
